Ok, as promised, Let's do a short 🧵 on glucose monitoring in athletes without diabetes. It's for all y'all who have been buying these monitors and then coming in to see us, freaking out because you think you are diabetic. Check out this data from Marliss et al. (1990). Yes, *1990*. (1/4)

Ensuring a high quality hot water immersion experience for a participant.

Data collection almost wrapped up - it's been a full on but very fun 3 months, and I've definitely learnt a few things about the reality of data collection!

How accurate and precise are handheld blood lactate analyzers?

Raincloud plots illustrating the relative difference between four commonly used handheld analyzers and the Biosen C-line stationary analyzer.

Pretty (and) informative?

A week to go to the Valencia Marathon, @dan-osborn-nash.bsky.social has undertaken his customary lab test - with positive results - has locked in his kit for race day, and is getting a haircut! Now just to run the race - this week's episode: open.spotify.com/episode/4U9g... #SportScience

Last few participants in the bath over the next 2 weeks before it's time to analyse some blood samples. I'm always curious what the "hot water immersion" setup in studies looks like - I'm sure most are a bit more luxurious than ours (it gets the job done though)!

@dan-osborn-nash.bsky.social and I record a weekly episode on our podcast, detailing Dan's training before Valencia marathon - where he's targetting 2:12:30. With 2 weeks to go there's not much training left, but Dan still ran a lot of K's!

Entering the last few weeks of data collection - lots of early mornings, long days & blood samples, and a lot of learning on my end about the reality of research!

Hoping to have some good data on the acute EPO response to hot water immersion to share soon!
