High Desert Otter
@ottermd37.bsky.social
Gardener, cook, writer, physician, rescuer of old dogs. Aspiring shitposter. Lover of the ironic, the sardonic, and the generally unserious.

I have faith in dogs and in soil biota. At this point, that's about it.
I didn't realize that. Apparently they looked at their hippie parents and thought "what's wrong with them is, they didn't hoard enough money."

Don't worry, the wound is quite small and neat… Just big enough to get the pathogens inside… and then, well, ever seen a necrotizing infection?

Yup. Some of them turned out to be good examples.

For some reason I know far more boomers than Gen X people who did work they cared about, developed a concept of enough, and stuck to it.

Enough people have disappeared that I get a little nervous when I hear about admin problems.

I need a Saxocannon. Really need one.

You are a truly nice patient.

Thinking about this made me think of the nurse I worked with for 15 yrs in 2 workplaces. Incredibly smart, a joy to work with, and when I walked up to her desk she'd slap her hand down over her pens and glare at me.

I did bring in pens regularly.

This doc would go to war for nurses.

But when the war was over, I would still steal their pens.

It's complicated.

Every doctor has worked with a lot of these consummate professionals, and therefore knows that the Department of Education is full of shit.
NURSES SAVE LIVES.

Did you?

@dj-acid-reflux.bsky.social your mom is a great otter artist!
She should stop worsening society with great otter art, but I want those otters anyway.

My mother: tells me about a friend's medical problem in my field.
Me: explains current standard of care for that condition.
My mother: "That isn't right. I'll ask your brother."
He is a doctor in a totally different field.

I need one, but I’m having trouble deciding which one.

These are gorgeous. Intricate and fluid simultaneously.
November 18, 2025 at 5:37 PM
So emphatically NOT SPAM.
November 17, 2025 at 4:24 AM
I have to keep checking to make sure you're still here. Hope you don't mind.
November 17, 2025 at 4:23 AM
No, it's perfect, because I was sure there was a book in it but I am not a real writer. So, happy to leave the talented part to you.

You find dogs insufficiently discerning, yeah that is why so many of us are able to keep them.

Loved the excerpt and immediately downloaded this and Everything Will Swallow You on Kindle.

We have an app, Nextdoor, for neighborhood messaging. I always thought that one day I would write a book about what happens on it, but now I don't have to since you did the work.
