There is a weirdness to seeing this institute of international justice being dismantled by its so-called protectors in the name of the Jewish state's genocide, remembering that originally the establishment of the ICC and ICJ was justified by the atrocities done to Jewish people by the Nazi genocide

In Eichah Rabah, Rabbi Shmuel teaches: "When do foreign powers declare destruction and it unfolds? Only when the people of Israel throw Torah teachings to the ground." 1/

Two IDF soldiers were suspended from service for filming and uploading a video of themselves explaining Talmud to Palestinian detainees, zip-tied and blindfolded by the side of an unmarked road. Once again, the idea of having "a Jewish army" does new, unbelievable types of harm to Jewish scripture

The two objective markers I can find as proof for the passing year are the ever-expanding lists of those murdered and the thickening of fascism in Israel. Everything else feels as if stuck in place. weighing down on my chest.

Censorship and Militarism are everywhere back home. There are ever more IDF weapons on campuses and less and less tolerance for lefty professors. The few I know were hounded down throughout the year. Some of them are retiring to keep themselves safe. If I return, what place am I going back to?

There is a pain that comes when a future is lost. For the last nine years, since I left IL, I have wanted to return and do my Heb Lit scholarship there while fighting the good fight for a free Palestine from within. But I think this dream is no longer real.

A year has passed, but how do I know it? l look through my ig archive and find posts from the day, saying the same thing I say today: “End the war,” “Return them all,” “Never again means now.” It's a year later, and we can say and do less than we could a year ago

That's the power of the Apartheid framework. You don't need history. You don't need to evoke the Balfour Declaration, or even 1948. "They did that and we did that". None of that. Two guys, side by side, one has rights, the other no rights. Separate and Unequal. Can't be justified.

And he phrases this so simply and clearly: whatever "your group" did should have no bearing on your right to be treated equally, as a human being. And a regime that enforces that logic is racist by definition.

I hate the "no human deserves to be bombarded" discourse. It reeks of old theodicy and imagines bombs as potential arbitrators of an unspecified justice. This does not help us to advocate de-escalation.

I'm a friend to no government because I never met one that wouldn't sell me and mine for its own interests. Yet, we cannot ignore the fact that not 30 years ago, a Jordanian state that is friendly to Israel seemed unfathomable. Remember that next time someone says the same about Palestine or Iran!

And we need to remember: during the last year, The State of Israel murdered thousands, tens of thousands, in the name of national security, and all it got was more warfronts and more rockets. This only ends when Israel, and its enabers at the US, decide they want peace more than Palestinian land.

Talked with my parents in Ramat Gan. They were outside when the sirens began. Now in their shelter. Friends in Tel Aviv tell me the buildings shake from the booms. Simultaneously, a shooting in Jaffa, killing four. Netanyahu, once again, only managed to bring the warfront closer to all homes.

A reminder: in 1982, the Israeli PM declared a "limited ground invasion to no more than 40 kilometers from the border." A week later, they were already lying siege to Beirut

Seeing the silence in which this video has been received in Israel is disheartening. The 2002 offer to normalize Israel, which is repeated here, is not the most reparative and can eventually turn on the Palestinians (esp. those in diaspora), but even this compromise is anathema for Zionists -->
Watch: Jordan Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Al Safadi: All of us [members of Muslim Arab committee] We are willing, right now, to guarantee the security of Israel in the context of Israel ending the occupation and allowing for the emergence of an independent Palestinian state
