Argh. Isn’t this just so infuriating?!

Them: “Be your whole self and advocate for yourself”

You <advocates>

Them: NOT LIKE THAT!!

Every autistic person I know has experienced some version of this. Usually many times. 😢
I recently sat in a class about how important it is to listen to others.

When autistic and disabled folx spoke up about how the things that being said weren’t relevant, we were shut down and told we don’t know how to listen.

Love it.

If you want to win an election against far right opposition you need to bring together two groups. The activated liberals outraged by the other side and the more moderate groups who want govt to make their lives less difficult. Not by trying to win the enthusiastic supporters of the other side.

Autistic life is no matter what you say to someone you will be wrong. Even when you're right, because you struggle to explain yourself you get dismissed. It's painful because deep down you know you're right and they’re wrong.

Autistic people are not “too negative.” We’re simply not interested in lying to ourselves. Or to you.

Adjusting to a late in life autism diagnosis (six years on).
I’m Autistic in my dreams now.
Challenging structural and attitudinal barriers has filtered into every part of my being.
Sometimes I wake up having advocated for myself in my sleep.
I get lots of practice in my waking hours too.
