Perhaps this is a symptom of a broader issue with learning rates: that they can capture numerous yet distinct cognitive mechanisms.

At some point I simulated ~10 mechanisms and fitted static learning rates, 8/10 "elevated" learning rates.

Yes, check our "resource rationality", it's often heuristic decisions that drive even major choices.

I am getting increasingly interested in how individual uncertainty aversion in mental health feeds into these life choices (e.g. "what-if" thinking in anxiety).

Well, in the three countries where I have recently worked (Germany, Ireland, Sweden), annual growth of 2-5% is baked directly into the budgets.

haha yes - this is just to demonstrate the affordability, ofc one doesn't just hire postdocs (although, now I am getting some ideas XD).

Same in germany/ireland - 1 postdoc + a few RAs, maybe a PhD position.
