I like cooking and Liverpool FC, dislike autocracy and intolerance. Very fond of my town, Sacramento (more trees than Paris!), and gin. Not a fan of Christian Nationalism or Cybertrucks.

I’ve had pneumonia for a week. Unexpectedly painful in addition to sucking all energy and causing gasping/panting. On the upside,

Our president is working through the narcissist guidelines - having stated he didn’t do it, nobody cares, Epstein is not important. Heading towards “if I did do it, it’s no big deal.”

I’m having trouble following his train of thought here: "That water situation, that all is, and that was really the Biden setup," he said, referencing his Democratic predecessor, Joe Biden. "But I wouldn't blame Biden for it, either. I would just say this is a 100-year catastrophe."
My favorite approach is a 3-step translation process:
1. Break what he actually said into separate clauses;
2. Reduce that to where his train of thought was going;
3. Refashion the meaning into a proper statement.

Happy 4th of July! Eating a grilled burger, the temp is cooling off, the flag is hung out front and the delta breeze is blowing, so it’s waving beautifully. And we are living in an authoritarian state.

Sad news about Diogo Jota, a clutch player with a lot of value, yet humble. He seemed like a regular guy who would easy to hang out with. #LFC #YNWA

Just a reminder: having a functional moral compass right now is going to make you feel bad all the time; don’t mistakenly hate yourself for that.

I keep saying this. It’s going to be a long journey back.
Genuinely, it took 60-80 years of concerted work by the right wing to get us here, and I don't imagine it taking less than that for us to get back.
This country is thoroughly screwed for at least a generation. People haven't taken stock of how much damage has already been done. 2026 and 2028 won't magically fix this. It's going to be a long walk.

Funny how the US has basically the government of Iran now: Supreme Leader who rules by decree, priestly council with token opposition that decides whether the decisions are okay or not on arcane scriptural grounds, and completely ceremonial legislature

US is conducting an interesting experiment to see if a lawless and nakedly political Supreme Court can work in concert with the branches to destroy the rule of law despite the best efforts of the rest of the federal courts

Hi! It’s Friday and the summer solstice is in 2 hours. It’s my nephew’s birthday so I baked him a cake this morning. Our local MLB team has a home game tonight. And we are living in an authoritarian state.

I know I’m not the only one who finds the term “inner cities” to be irritating, ill-defined, and undoubtedly racist. I just have a hard time articulating exactly why. Any educated, informed essays out there from the #urbanism community or others?
