If you are curious, here is a detailed density map of the sun-like stars out to 1000 parsecs. It looks very different from my hot star maps. In sun-like stars, the Sun is at the edge of a peninsula-like structure that extends from the inner galaxy.

Even after the Federation formed, the Star Trek universe is *dangerous*. You have capricious energy beings, an unbelievably volatile timeline, and space anomalies that can just show up and swallow a starship or even a planet whole.
