It's so disappointing seeing lots of my Developer Advocate friends turn into AI shills. I get it, the job market is trash and they're popular and paying. It's just the turn into a fully pro-GenAI take on things that's sad to see.

I've tuned Ezra Klein out, but I guess this fairly center-right take that there's just too much pesky regulation is central to his current book tour?

though he oddly doesn't really mention that authoritarians are destroying corporate oversight and the regulatory state entirely? Which is..odd?

american masculinity is so amazing. caring about clothes as a man apparently makes you "gay" but our position on geopolitics totally depends on whether you wear a suit

4. His tweets create controversy > which generates headlines > which bring people back to Twitter > thereby increasing revenue through ads or other methods (it's a strategy)

So, the more tweets, the more ridiculousness, the more his name is in the headlines, the more $$

Consider this if you're thinking of going back to TikTok.
An update on the TikTok situation from our monitoring on Reddit. Now you get TOS'ed for saying negative comments about meta and Zuckerberg, left-wing politics get flagged as misinformation, and you can't tag #fucktrump #fuckelon or #fuckmeta but you CAN tag #fuckbiden and #fuckkamala

this is a common but grossly misleading analogy and wrong on many levels. the aviation industry operates under strict rules and regulations, unlike tech and early days of google search actually worked better (from information pollution pov) than what has become of it over the past year

it's a new year and I spent my first workday writing a quick ★ terminal survey ★!

it should take about 5 minutes and I'd love for folks to fill it out, I'm writing a zine about the terminal and my goal is to understand who we're writing it for a little better s.surveyplanet.com/wkepwlsp

Just saw Doc Edgerton’s famous ‘applesauce’ photo shared here with no credit or info and the description: “There is a lot of high-end tech to used to take this. An example of what you can do with hyper-pro gear.” and I am still laughing.

Yes, at MIT. In 1964.

"Smart" does so much work in American culture. For example, another myth we don't talk about is how people who are intelligent and have technically marketable skills are also too "smart" to get duped by con artists. They are not. Nerds are huge marks tbh.
the foundational myth of the tech industry is that smart people can't be evil

OK maybe I'm not being clear.

Saying "Musk is right about..."

Or "Trump was right about..."

Or "Hitler was right about..."

Is a silly rhetorical device designed to curry favor with people that hate you, but irredeemably loses you trust with people that used to like you. You never need to say it.

Pam Bondi, Trump's new pick for AG, has a very long history from when she was Florida's attorney general of helping Trump legally after he gave her contributions.

And there's more you need to know.
