It is currently illegal to ride escooters on the sidewalk yet we encourage it by making them park there. Even in the downtown core where we have the most amount of sidewalk space, there just isn't enough room on the sidewalks to park scooters and bikes. Parking them in the street makes sense.

Don't follow the example of these guys and ride the wrong way down a bike lane. It is dangerous and not something that should be encouraged for cars, bikes, and scooters.

CM Kettle seen here voicing his support to appreciate funding the city budget to crack down on unpermitted vending, citing the harm it causes to farmers market vendors and Climate Pledge Arena.

CM Saka says a recent budget item is a good investment to focus on "education" for unpermitted vendors. He says that businesses in his district on Alki have complained about these vendors undercutting their business and says he wants to truly support education for these unpermitted vendors.

Here is Dan Strauss talking about how this taco stand has been the most positive activation of this street corner he has seen in years. SDOT Director Emery confirms SDOT will take an approach of education first with a path to permitting. Tonight SPD shut this stand down citing enforcement by SDOT.

SPD out here on Northgate shutting down the taco stand between 8th and Roosevelt due to "multiple licensing and health code violations" that they wouldn't provide anymore info about.

Both Kettle and Saka have auto-replies set up for their email with a lot of information that imply that they will not respond and that you should have contacted someone else.

The Seattle Shield Initiative is a big win for small businesses in Seattle. Thank you to our favorite council member @alexis4seattle.bsky.social for giving our struggling small businesses some relief and making large corporations pay their fair share.

This crash occurred on a "walkable boulevard" according to SDOT's design concepts.

OPCD already created an incredible example of measuring pollution along SR99 as part of the Reconnect South Park project. SDOT should adopt this as part of every major transit project.

Well said by AMR: "We can't manage what we don't measure. If we're serious about climate action and equity, we need to know how our transportation investments are moving the needle..."

Thrilled to see this receive additional support from the city council.

It even works on streets without sidewalks.

Seattle has some great examples of how to do this. Here's a simple example on N 77th between Aurora And Stone Ave.

Look at all of the space in the street and yet there are probably 100 scooters blocking the sidewalk. Nevermind that this street should be pedestrianized.
October 24, 2025 at 7:12 AM
eScooters are illegal to ride on the sidewalk so why is the city encouraging scooters to park there? This is about the amount of space allocated for these corrals and on game days, the entire sidewalk can be blocked by them which forces people to walk in the street.
