There was no meaningful recovery after 2010 because LibDems Tory coalition austerity crushed demand, starved investment, and put ideology before economic logic. The damage is still being felt in stagnant wages, collapsing public services, and a structurally weak UK economy.

Here, in one story, is the state of the UK's right-wing press and why, as a journalist of 50 years' standing, I no longer believe a word that the likes of the Mail, Sun et al write.
What happens when a political agenda takes over any semblance of journalistic standards

Telegraph admits its story about private school family not being able to go on five holidays was complete nonsense and not remotely fact-checked

The EU is a powerful trading bloc with the heft to stand up to Trump

Brexit Britain has no alternative but to appease him and to change our domestic policy to keep him sweet

This makes us closer to a vassal state than EU membership ever did

We’ve shelved our plans to visit USA and Route 66.

US has such a negative vibe these days, so whether you want an activity holiday or just fly and flop, there are so many better options, with eggs on top!

“When you allow the rule of law to disappear for one group of people in the country, it will soon disappear for everybody. And then we lose everything we believe the US should stand for.”

As Trump invokes the same statute to justify mass deportations, consider these messages a critical warning.
The US used the Alien Enemies Act to detain their families. Now, they are watching history repeat.
The statute justified the imprisonment in World War II of thousands like Heidi Gurcke Donald. She is horrified as Trump invokes it for mass deportation.

The pause in help is utterly shameful. Trump is handing Putin victory on a plate as Britain and France did with the Czechs in World War 2. And we all know how that worked out.

Trump never had a peace plan for Ukraine. He had a plan for Ukraine's surrender, with a colonial resource grab. As Zelenskyy rightly refused it, or to cooperate in Trump's TV spectacular, the US has now cut Ukraine off.
