Long-winded and allegedly human.
People are just tuning in to six-year-old discourse, apparently.

It’s just the modern version Of advertising autographed portraits of Jesus Christ on the radio in the 1930s.

And often, what they aren’t. Gore Vidal said, decades ago, and talking about the NYT, that people from the rest of the world were often surprised how well informed Soviet citizens were. They said that you needed to know how to read Pravda.

Indeed, this person did such a fine job of reading it that I’ll just defer to them:
'Matt Gaetz Raped A Homeless Teenager' is what you mean.

A teenager with a homeless parent? What? The fuck? Did she have a home and not allow her parent to live in it? Ended up having sex with? What? Yeah clearly you guys been caping for pedos long enough and you understand the assignment here
A teenager in Florida with a homeless parent wanted money for braces and ended up having sex for money with powerful men, setting off a chain of events that would have a dramatic impact on her life and help upend the political career of Representative Matt Gaetz. nyti.ms/49PSkL9

Not related to your point (and yeah, we need to primary him,) but it isn’t necessary to read the tea leaves of this recent election: it doesn’t take an expert to discern that people all over the country were clearly saying “fuck this.”

David Wilcox has a song about this (“Rule Number One”) and summarized it excellently: “sooner or later, you’re the waiter.”

I mean…we’re still talking about Gavin Newsom, right?
September 10, 2025 at 11:37 PM
Obviously by “he” I mean Newsom.

Regardless of whether he is being genuine, I can’t say this any better than Elie.
It is entirely possible to be respectful about the death of a person you disagreed with without “honoring” him by vowing to continue his disagreeable, hateful “work.”
The best way to honor Charlie's memory is to continue his work: engage with each other, across ideology, through spirited discourse. In a democracy, ideas are tested through words and good-faith debate — never through violence.

Years ago I played some game that had a built-in EA online services sign up and login API. However it didn’t police password requirements correctly (maybe website changed policy but API was out-of-date, dunno.) So the API worked but the site would reject my password on entry and not let me log in.

Using a lyric sheet to teach an alphabet was brilliant. Way more engaging than most possibilities that aren’t part of a larger mystery (like a puzzle game) where you’re already engaged and have the expectation of uncovering more information.

So we have the “shooter” who didn’t fire any rounds whatsoever and the “peacekeeper” who shot and killed an innocent bystander.

I can’t think of any other than Slowdive either.

I guess the last is not another artist, but it’s a fun honorable mention at any rate.

Radiohead (Talking Heads)
The Rolling Stones (Muddy Waters)
Crass (Bowie)
Simple Minds (also Bowie)

Though perhaps the most interesting one I know is that “Butthole Surfer” was a song well before Butthole Surfers was the name of the band.

Well, you know, they almost never return a “not qualified” recommendation for appointees nominated by Democrats, so they’re clearly partisan activists.

Put him in the longboat until he’s sober?
May 17, 2025 at 8:41 AM
To be perfectly clear, I was not trying to call you out here.
May 13, 2025 at 11:21 PM
It’s an obviously American perspective for sure, but there is a grain of truth in there about people making it their entire personality (also an extremely American thing, of course.)
May 13, 2025 at 10:43 PM
It wasn’t within the scope of the hearing, of course, but I’d like to see a lot more pushback on the “Marco Rubio unilaterally decided I am guilty of thoughtcrimes” front.

But today they have a better excuse than most days?
