Just a reminder that if you follow @aimod.social you can see which accounts are using AI, so you can do whatever you want with that information (and also tag accounts yourself). It allows you to customize and toggle what you want to be notified about which takes the form of a banner (see image 2).

Another addition to the 'generative AI energy use is small when you compare it to something bigger so what's the problem' series, this most recently from Hannah Ritchie's substack.

This reply from @sashamtl.bsky.social is informative

"Tech is neutral" is really just the "guns don't kill people, people kill people" argument reused.

Sure, guns don't have agency. But they have what's called affordance - they are designed to make killing as easy as possible, which makes murder a viable* solution for a greater range of problems.

I keep catching strays from "technology is neutral" people, so let's set things straight.

1) Technology is not neutral, especially the subset of technology called "algorithms"
2) The form-factor that makes a technology into a tool is not neutral
3) How tools are productized is not neutral

The future of web development is swinging back to basics.

CSS and HTML are the most exciting things in web development right now.

And don't worry about getting left behind because these features are here to stay. We're just getting started 🥳

“Another article about the death of design does not help us. In order to push back and do something brave, you have to get energy coming back. And that’s through joy, and through laughter, and through a little bit of cheekiness.”

Ryan Rumsey archives 100 years of “design is dead” warnings
Last month, Fast Company ran an article titled, “Is design dead? Design leaders wrestle with the question.” A lot of designers rushed to pile into the debate across social media…

This is such a brilliant example of how "cheap thing" does not always = 'fast transition'

Battery packs themselves are swelling in design size - resulting in excessively expensive EVs (because car companies make more $$ per unit by severely oversizing products).

I've removed the Bluesky data from the repo. While I wanted to support tool development for the platform, I recognize this approach violated principles of transparency and consent in data collection. I apologize for this mistake.

Had a good chat about the link between accessibility and sustainability with the folks at @axschat.bsky.social — what Antonio is saying is real, and at the same time these are not opposing concepts. Or are they??
So, people with disabilities often need to choose a non-sustainable solution because that one works for us.
@neilmilliken.bsky.social and I talked with @ohalexis.bsky.social from IKEA on our @axschat.bsky.social podcast. #axschat #Disability #Sustainability

“People are just selfish” is a remarkably ignorant way to brush off what is happening in America. Are people selfish? Yes. But if you choose to ignore the gazillion other factors that went into creating our circumstances, including the intentional brainwashing of millions, you’re part of the problem
