Since 1995 we have supported the arts with a gallery, mentoring artists and introducing clients to collecting and understanding the history of art. Helping to begin careers as artists has been our crowning achievement. Thank you for following.

Beautiful day in the 1000 Islands. Excellent for a nice walk and popping into the gallery to see James Huchwith's new show, FLANEUR.

I just sent the last two paintings to O'Connor Gallery for my show opening, Friday this coming week. Whew!

That's over a year and a half of work, and about thirty paintings.
I am one happy clam.

'The Birch Grove, autumn.' Tom Thomson was a great colourist; he painted blood-red sunsets, ominous storms and clouds of every shape and kind; he had a concentrated way of seeing, a Wiliam Blake kind of vision, which made the ordinary extraordinary. This is from 1915.

on Titian, in his 'Le Déjeuner sur l'herbe'.

Anyway, any homage wasn't my first priority at all. But knowing there were precedents, and working knowing of them, brought more intensity to creating the piece. To consciously sharpen it into a new thing around respect for the originals.

Then I thought, "Oh No! Caillebotte's 'Floor Scrapers'!".

So I hesitated, and had to think about it a while. I figured Caillebotte would have known of the Millet, I knew about both of 'em.
So, I'd be in good stead doing an update on aspects of the classics - like Manet did with his acidic riff
