Scrolling through Next Fest and the hundreds of games very obviously using AI art I gotta confirm the obvious : it wasn't "lack of access to art" holding these people back. The games are the most generic and boring things imaginable.

...Some of them even outsourced writing the description to GPT

People imagine picking up and finding *something better* is an easy solution. But how is that supposed to work, when all your time and energy goes to staying alive? You have almost nothing to set aside to actually fight your way out.

You know, when splitting off to new/smaller sites what's often talked about is the smaller population base.

But what us older internet people often reflect on is how there was less people and mostly more technical and how that changed things and... maybe going back to that wouldn't be so bad.
