What game is this footage from? I don't recognize it, but it looks like it could be neat.

Ok, what positioning works?

Stand in center to not get cornered by adds? Have to jump on first charge tell to be able to make it in time, feint or delay hits you. Stand on edge to have time to truly react? Corned by adds potentially. There's no solution that will 100% work. It's luck.

So what was the guy in this screenshot supposed to do differently?

Savage Beastfly is a pure die roll. You bash your head into the wall until you succeed. There's nothing more to it.

(And the other thing that really deserved the whining has been patched already.)

Nah, this boss actually is broken. What are you going to do when he charges you unavoidably, just magically not get hit because of your POSITIVE MINDSET or something?

Most of the hand-wringing about Silksong difficulty is overblown, but this guy is legit BS
September 12, 2025 at 9:09 AM
Nah, you just got lucky. There are *a lot* of ways he can come up with undodgeable setups. Most people who say he's fair have never even seen him do some of the crap he can, like summon two of the fat fliers at once twice in a row with no gaps. Yes, that can happen.
September 12, 2025 at 9:08 AM
He can change heights *while* charging in certain circumstances. There are certain heights he can charge at which are unavoidable with any tools available for the first 2/3rds of the game. The amount of adds he summons are random. Which adds he summons are random.

I'm gonna be blunt -- if you think he's not bullshit, you got lucky with his attack selections. There are multiple ways he can just completely screw you over via RNG. He can delay and feint his horizontal charge, and if you jump on the feint, you're getting hit.

In fact, now that I'm thinking about it, you can pretty consistently predict how hard a boss is going to be by how many ways there are to take one mask of damage during their fight.

None? Probably fairly chill. A couple? Likely hard. Lots? You're probably in for some shit.
September 11, 2025 at 11:03 PM
Ironically, a lot of the much harder bosses in the second half only do 1 for many of their attacks.
September 11, 2025 at 10:42 PM
Sadly, that strategy doesn't actually work on the boss I think you're referring to because he can randomly delay the charge, change height, and now he's coming at you at a height that's literally unavoidable (to high to jump, to low to dash under).

Hopefully this isn't a spoiler, but a general rule of thumb -- if they really don't want you pogo skipping to something to sequence break, they don't put enemies on that screen.
September 11, 2025 at 6:57 PM
I'm assuming based on the follow ups that you mean Fourth Chorus? That's not the early boss people are complaining about. The bad one is really RNG heavy, so you can get lucky and not see it get stupid, but oh my God can it get stupid.

Depends on which door you found. One is a yay, the other is a nay.
September 11, 2025 at 9:29 AM
The entire boss healthbar other than the last HP is a runback to the last HP of his healthbar.
September 10, 2025 at 6:26 PM
Ha, I was going to say exactly that.
September 10, 2025 at 6:16 PM
I'll never understand why people think that banging their heads on the same wall for an hour straight is *less* frustrating than failing, going back a couple minutes, and succeeding for a couple of minutes before running head-first into that wall again.
September 10, 2025 at 6:11 PM
Imagine a boss where you can get killed by unavoidable RNG setups. Or, in a darker context, an Angry Birds style mobile game that applies small randomness to the player input to make consistency impossible. Or a puzzle game that applies randomness to setups for the same end.

Nah, the really hard optional bit in Act 1 is over in Hunter's March. You'd probably know it if you saw it, there's an entire subreddit dedicated to it now.
September 8, 2025 at 9:08 PM
There's one optional really hard but in Act 1, but the back half of Act 2 is where it goes nuclear.
September 8, 2025 at 7:55 PM
I remember watching that playtest vid someone did where they got *wrecked* by Phantom, that sure didn't look too easy to me!

It's simply not accurate to think "anyone who liked HK must like hard games, so they'll be fine with SS.". SS is on some serious romhack/masocore levels of insanity much of the time. It's not a "somewhat challenging" game like HK, it's *brutal*, really surprisingly so.
September 8, 2025 at 10:08 AM
As someone who loved Hollow Knight, I also think Silksong is *way* too hard a lot of the time. A lot of Pantheon 5/Path of Pain stuff leaked into the critical path. White Flower on a timer is critical path unless you want the ending that cuts out the last third of the game.

I think we all just remember the animated X-Men series, Nicktoons (especially Ren and Stimpy), Animaniacs, and DCAU (especially Batman: The Animated Series, but Superman and, later, Teen Titans were also cool) and block out the rest of the crap, which makes us think those old cartoons were amazing.
