@aucklandcouncil.bsky.social, @richardhills.bsky.social, @aucklandtransport.bsky.social I would have thought it would be appropriate for the flags on the AHB to be at half mast out of respect for the passing of former Prime Minister Bolger.

More veg, less meat: the latest global update on a diet that’s good for people and the planet
Most New Zealand adults consume more protein than the recommended amount. They could reduce meat without risking inadequate protein intake.

@nznationalparty.bsky.social @actparty.bsky.social @nzfirst.bsky.social — Will the government extend Child Support obligations to both parents for 18–19yos losing access to benefits?
Currently, Child Support ends when a student turns 18.
This new policy will hit mostly women-led households hardest.

When we reestablish rule of law in the US, one of the reforms we should make is a law capping CEO compensation (salary, options, etc) as a fixed multiple of that of the lowest paid worker (employee, IC, whatever.)

If CEOs couldn’t make more than 20x the minimum pay, you’d see wages skyrocket.
Via Morning Brew

The Institute for Policy Studies analyzed the 100 companies in the S&P 500 with the lowest median pay & found that overall CEO compensation increased nearly 35% over five yrs, outpacing employees' gains.

At those 100 companies, the average CEO-to-worker pay gaphit 632 to 1 last yr.

Why go for the guy who was Lady Chatterly’s husband when you could have her lover?
My pick for the new James Bond: Richard Madden. Doesn’t hurt that he’s Scottish like Sean was. However at 5’9”, this might count against him.

@fergalkeane, I can relate to this. I’m NZ-born and raised with 4 Irish grandparents and an Irish father, all of whom emigrated to NZ. I’m proud to have an Irish passport, as are my children. My grandmother had a saying about this: if the cat had kittens in an oven, you wouldn’t call them scones.

@finlaymacdonald.bsky.social, the obvious solution to the tail wagging the dog is for the parties who are closest to form a coalition i.e. Labour and National. The outdated, binary mindset is what needs to change for MMP to work in the best interests of most.
With so many parties ‘ruling out’ working with other parties, is MMP losing its way?
ACT won’t work with Labour, Labour won’t work with NZ First, National won’t work with Te Pāti Māori … What happened to the cross-party compromise MMP was meant to foster?
