The trees are being poisoned first then removed, so I suspect the foot/rootball will go. The river bank will suffer, I suspect as it's been built up with silt over the years.
Currently the work is focused on mulching the bamboo which was cut down in October.

It's a natural stream coming from ranges a short distance away. It joins a larger stream on our boundary, which eventually meets the sea. We have freshwater eels, which eventually migrate at around 40 years old to Tonga from New Zealand.

Today,Feb 2, is World Wetlands Day. Almost 10% of AoNZ used to be covered in wetlands that were alive with birds & other native species. Only about 1 10th of that is left. The Kotuku is one that is affected. (Pix Libby McColl's Kotuku.)

Flies! I am going through fly spray by a can a week. However, I may have been spraying bees. I found these tiny bodies after a clean-up. Expert advice differs: wool carder bees; wasps; hover flies. I dunno.

Our family is busy mapping the wildlife in our stream before the willows are removed and natives planted. We have eels, koura, the world's only bioluminescent limpit, NZ's only freshwater crab, leeches, and kaakahi (mussels).

My last post months ago was about the atrocious weather in Auckland. Can't say the same this minute. 🤣
