THE RISE OF END TIMES FASCISM

My first major piece of the new Trump era, co-written with @astra.bsky.social.

The governing ideology of the far right has become a
monstrous, supremacist survivalism.

Our task is to build a movement strong enough to stop them. www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-i...

Hey Foxy...are you chill?
Word of the day is ‘foxy’ (19th century), used of weather that misleads you into thinking it’s extremely warm when in reality it’s pretty chilly.

Today,Feb 2, is World Wetlands Day. Almost 10% of AoNZ used to be covered in wetlands that were alive with birds & other native species. Only about 1 10th of that is left. The Kotuku is one that is affected. (Pix Libby McColl's Kotuku.)

Our family is busy mapping the wildlife in our stream before the willows are removed and natives planted. We have eels, koura, the world's only bioluminescent limpit, NZ's only freshwater crab, leeches, and kaakahi (mussels).

Heartbreaking and vitally important read from the parent of a trans child in the spinoff this morning.

"how am I going to tell her? How do you tell a child, “All those things we promised you about growing up as a young woman, the government has decided that you can’t have any of that”?"
‘She knew before she could read’: The reality of raising a trans child
A parent shares their experience and fears as public submissions are sought on the use of puberty blockers for gender-affirming care.

An excellent demolition of the pathetic justifications for the Treaty Principles Bill here.

A matter of principles
Misinformation about the Treaty of Waitangi, its language and its intent is at the centre of the Treaty Principles Bill introduced to Parliament this week.

"Octavia E. Butler’s 1993 novel Parable of the Sower, imagined a future in which California is inhospitable, weather is deadly, wealth disparities are vicious, and a presidential candidate may set the country back 100 years.

It all begins on July 20, 2024."

That is today.

Because becoming more conservative as you age was never a result of getting older, it was a function of getting richer. The greedy fucks took all the shit, so we never got richer. It's not fucking rocket science.

I was at Labtests for thyroid and cholesterol tests, and the results came back for diabetes! Dunno how that happened, but I suppose knowing I haven't got diabetes is a plus.🤔
