Being a writer in New York is telling someone your 5th book just came out and them replying with "I could have written that." Ok, cool?

First they came for the federal employees,
And I did not speak out,
Because I was not a federal employee

You know the rest of the poem.

Act accordingly.

Big thanks to Chadd Scott, who interviewed me about my book I'm Not Your Muse (publishes a week from today!), and on being called a muse myself for @forbes.com www.forbes.com/sites/chadds...
Why ‘Muse’ Is A Four-Letter Word In Art History
“I’m Not Your Muse: Uncovering the Overshadowed Brilliance of Women Artists & Visionaries,” available February 25, 2025, stands up for women whose contribution to the arts have been overlooked.

Writing I'm Not Your Muse was a heavenly immersion into my favorite place to be- the comforting bubble of researching the past. I missed it, so I am continuing to feature inspiring, creative women, paired with interviews with contemporary women I admire. Plz subscribe😀

First review is in for I'm Not Your Muse (publishing in 2 weeks!) We somehow got a glowing review from the notoriously critical Kirkus. Fingers crossed this is only the first! www.kirkusreviews.com/book-reviews...

Never be afraid to write your heart out. To write your ass off. To write until your hands cramp. Because when you look back at the miles of ink behind you you might just have a masterpiece.

Oh my god I went to high school with the acting director of ICE and he was exactly as huge a fan of big dumb swords and The Crow as you’d expect.

My fifth book, I’m Not Your Muse: Uncovering the Overshadowed Brilliance of Women Artists & Visionaries comes out one month from today. To say I am nervous about the reception of a book celebrating great women in this climate is an understatement.😵‍💫

It turns out none of my friends are participating in the #metaboycott and it is very concerning on how things will go if we can’t even be minorly inconvenienced for one week.

Bluesky feels a little like shouting into the void alone. I'm not convinced I can rebuild the community I had, here. Should I return to the 90s? No social media at all? At least I was more connected to myself back then.

"Are you a war correspondent or a wife in my bed?" read a cable sent by Ernest Hemingway in 1943 to his 3rd wife, journalist Martha Gellhorn, who was covering the Italian front and would go on to be the only woman on the beaches of Normandy on D Day. She divorced him two years later. #booksky

Online Bookstores to use instead of Amazon:

1. Thrift Books
2. Better World Books
3. Bookshop(.)org
4. Local indie bookstores
5. Libro(.)fm

The biggest form of revolt is carefully choosing how we spend our hard-earned money.

Let me be clear: support indie authors however/wherever you can

Dear #BookSky, #Booktok, readers, et al,

Buying an author's work is nice. Welcome, even. But telling them how much you enjoyed it, or leaving a kind review? That keeps an author going far more than the pittance they get from royalties.

Signed,
A Struggling Indie Author

If you’re afraid to write your book because you think its content stands no chance in the coming climate, Remember that banned books (and books victims thought the world would never see) are the only honest window we have into some of the darkest moments of history. Write the book. #booksky

I honestly don’t know if it’s the best time or the worst time to come out with a book celebrating women in history, but I do know we need to keep these stories alive. Weird to be prepping for harassment for writing about a positive topic in my next book #booksky www.runningpress.com/titles/lori-...

Reminder for everyone: Get a library card. Visit your local library. Check out books (especially banned books). Use the other resources. Attend library events. Utilize an important part of your community that is FREE! Don't let them forget its importance. #booksky 📚💙
