I reported on mass shootings for The Daily Beast, so I can’t say I was always as responsible as I wish regarding sensationalism during mass tragedies. But we still had a system of standards and ethics regarding the publishing of photos or videos of horror and gore

Informing the public is so important, and does require visual representation. But I fear journalists who’ve consumed hours of violent and traumatic footage have become so desensitized — while never having trauma training or support resources — that we are unwittingly spreading it like a contagion
