agree with these lists more than with the Athletic's ones. Some UFA decisions are tricky, but I'd at least always go ONO > Mabrey and especially Leite > Thornton.
Now that we know existing WNBA teams will be able to protect five players for the upcoming expansion draft to start building rosters for the Portland Fire and Toronto Tempo after a new CBA is signed, I looked at what players could be available based on current rules: www.espn.com/wnba/story/_...

"the league believes that the comparison [with the NBA and NFL] is unfair because it has similar costs but makes much less money."
the league keeps crying that they cannot even afford a replay center and L2M reports, but similar costs 😂😂😂

hilarious that WNBA's strategy in the negotiations was supposed to be "weaponizing" the lower/middle classes of players against Unrivaled/Project B with the conflict of interest angle etc – instead virtually everything they propose seems to be relatively hurting everyone but top end players lol?
BREAKING: The WNBA has proposed cutting team housing in addition to an earlier start date, according to multiple sources.

The start date for training camp could be as early as mid-March, sources indicated, which would come with serious implications.

it's interesting that Unrivaled (and the investors) have been so positive about overreaching their goals and then expanding their operations with more teams etc even with the two biggest names from Season 1 not doing Season 2

I open my first WNBL game of the year and literally the first thing I see is Pili down injured, okay

agreed, and it felt unfair to judge her season too harshly when she sat out due to the ankle like 3 separate times during the year and clearly was never right (and I say that as someone who was never too high on HVL due to me having the pleasure to watch every single second of her at LSU lol)
HVL finally underwent clean up surgery on her right ankle after playing through injury for the entire season.

Still not sure why this wasn’t undergone earlier this summer. Came in with the injury and never got it right. Really struggled through her rookie season as a result.

hilarious to me how big of a division of opinions there have been this year about certain #wnba All-Defensive choices from people who I know that they do know a lot about basketball and who I respect – just illustrates how hard it is to judge defense in basketball lol

surprised to not see more discussion about a hard number being revealed. With 300k rookie min and ~1 million max contracts (and 12 player rosters) you'd be looking at like 7-8 million cap? Wouldn't be surprising for players to be pushing for ~10 millions I guess. #wnba
Spoke with Satou Sabally about balancing financial privilege when you come from a lower income childhood, and w/Dana Evans on the views of "tweener" players.

"I know the league came, but with like 300 [thousand],” Sabally said. “Push it up. Push it up."

interestingly so far in every #wnba playoff series it has been the lower seed drawing higher average attendance (and in pretty much every case it has not even been close)

was there any other "half a game" suspension for Butler and Wade (or anyone else in the NBA) that I am not aware of? Or are we talking about the famous 5-minute long "suspension"? A dagger to the soul?

personally not surprised the MVP voting wasn't close – A'ja was still 1st in media voting for All-Star and at that point her "gap" to Phee was possibly biggest, it likely did swing to Phee at some point but voters were always happy to vote A'ja if she gave them reasons (and she did obviously) #wnba

yesterday Brionna Jones played 18 minutes in the second half and had two field goal attempts, the first one with 3 minutes left a (impressive!) putback after a missed three by Naz, and the second the desperate last second heave. Would need to rewatch the game properly to assess but curious. #wnba

funny random fact I discovered doing some #wnba data research:
-in 2024, Natasha Mack attempted 124 field goals and made 71 of them
-in 2025, Natasha Mack attempted 124 field goals and made 71 of them

finally some early #nwsl game to watch, though these two teams recently got rid of like 5 players I actually knew 😭 an opportunity to LEARN some more players I guess!

feels like Plum and Hamby would want to stay together. But once again with them and Jackson the defense might just never be good enough, even with Brink and even with a solid defensive PG. Hamby would be the perfect 6th player but she's unlikely to settle for that anymore. Complicated! #wnba
Gonna be interesting to see how aggressively LA try to keep this core group together going forward. Do you back better health and development of Brink/Jackson plus maybe a PG upgrade to be enough? Or do we have the proof now that this core isn't good enough and they should break it up? #WNBA

in the end 90 % of criticism of Angel's play dating back to college has boiled down to "I don't like the way it looks" lol

what even is the bar for "improvement" when a player (let alone a current sophomore!) raising her ts% by 7 points and doubling her ast% does not clear it!
And I'm not so much an Angel hater as I am a skeptic, but if we're talking about improving this offseason, she has gone several years dating back to college without developing a post bag or anything resembling a form on her shot. Improvement cuts both ways.
