As another year ends, I'm not just reviewing the last year for ESPN—I'm reviewing the last 7 decades of NBA history, with a big project that answers the question: What moment defines every NBA season since 1954?

(h/t @sammillerbb.bsky.social for the original idea)
What NBA moment will define 2025? Looking back at the most memorable events since 1954
On the heels of the new year, ESPN analyst Zach Kram picks a moment from each basketball season that NBA fans will most likely learn about and remember for years to come.

The Bulls need a creative motor with Josh Giddey and Coby White on the shelf with injuries.

That’s where point guard Tre Jones comes in.

Tre Jones provides a much-needed creative spark for injury-depleted Chicago Bulls: ‘That’s our recipe to win’

The Bulls pride themselves on their depth.

But is this team really all that deep?

An extended absence for Josh Giddey will certainly put that to the test:
The Chicago Bulls believe depth is their greatest strength. But is this roster even that deep?
Despite preaching depth, the Chicago Bulls are still desperately dependent on Josh Giddey and Coby White. Both will miss Wednesday’s game.

Patrick Williams has slowly slipped down to the end of the Bulls bench.

Midway through his fifth season, the highest Chicago draft pick in more than a decade is at danger of becoming the last man in the rotation:
Is Patrick Williams on his way to becoming the 11th man for the Chicago Bulls?
As the Chicago Bulls recalibrate around the return of injured players, it’s clear Patrick Williams is losing priority in the team’s depth chart.

Author Shea Serrano embraces one of the toughest truths of NBA writing: There’s no simple way to write something new about Michael Jordan.

It’s hard to win a basketball game when the ball isn’t going through the hoop.

Takeaways from another tough Bulls loss:
3 takeaways as the Chicago Bulls offense flounders in a 114-104 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans
It’s hard to win a basketball game when the ball isn’t falling through the net. That was clear for the Chicago Bulls in Sunday’s 114-104 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans.

At times this season, a dangerous question has nagged Nikola Vučević:

What am I doing here?

The veteran is trying to find purpose in another transitional year with the Bulls.

And now, his starting role could be up for the taking.
Could Nikola Vučević lose his starting job with the struggling Chicago Bulls? ‘We all have a part in this.’
Vučević did not play in the fourth quarter of the Bulls’ first win in seven games. Could this be a new pattern?

The Bulls were desperate.

And Zach Collins was the most desperate of them all.

On getting over the winless hump and getting back to winning ways:

The Bulls finally snap a seven-game losing skid with a 129-126 win over the Charlotte Hornets.

Not pretty, not perfect, but there were traces of the frenetic style of play that helped this team get out to a 6-1 start.

Most notable: Nikola Vučević benched for the entire fourth quarter.

Vooch has not played in the fourth quarter. Doesn't look like he will close.

Jalen Smith and Zach Collins giving some really valuable minutes here in the second half.

Angel Reese says she will return to Chicago next season.

But there's still work left in repairing the relationship if the Sky want their star to remain with the team for the long-term.

Forward Angel Reese said Friday that she plans to return to the Chicago Sky for the 2026 season and is building a relationship with coach Tyler Marsh and GM Jeff Pagliocca.

The Bulls are a team built to get to the rim.

So why do they miss so many of those shots?

And why do they get blocked more than any other team in the league?
The Chicago Bulls offense is built on getting to the rim. So why aren’t they able to finish?
The Chicago Bulls are the second-best team in the NBA at creating shots in the restricted area — and the worst at finishing them.

The Bulls have lost 7 straight games and 13 of 16. They have gone from 5 games above .500 to 5 games below in 33 days.

Something has to change. But the Bulls haven’t shown a clear strategy — or urgency — for shaking themselves out of this drought.

Longest losing streak since the COVID shutdown.

The Bulls keep hammering the same point — they can’t win a game with this level of effort.

So where’s the urgency?
3 takeaways from the Chicago Bulls’ 7th straight loss — their longest skid since February 2020
It’s cold in Chicago — on defense, on offense, everywhere on the court. And whatever the Bulls needed to overcome their worst losing streak since February 2020, they didn’t have it.

Seven straight losses.

The Bulls can't stop the bleeding (or crack 100 points) in a 123-91 loss to the Warriors.

Warriors jump on the Bulls to open the fourth quarter on a 21-5 run.

That skid ain't ending anytime soon.
Fairly lifeless stuff from the Bulls here against the Warriors, who have waltzed through three quarters on the second night of a road back-to-back.

Bulls cut a 24-point lead down to 11 at the end of the third quarter, but still need an extreme jump start to snap this losing streak.
