I don't really care what the "political consequences" are of fighting for the proposition that *everyone* is entitled to due process before they are removed from the United States and sent to a Salvadoran prison.

It's not really a principle if you only adhere to it when it's politically expedient.

McCarthyism made anti-communism look bad and gave cover to actual communists. When Communists were *everywhere and everyone*, soon, no one believed there were any communists anywhere in the government.
Spoiler: There were, actually, communists in the USG.
You'd think this would be a lesson today.
Basically, I can't think of ANY words/accusations (even plainly accurate ones) that affect entrenched power like we're experiencing now in the way you're imagining. The only recent exceptions that jump to mind are extensions of malignant, weaponized threats like McCarthyism (and obv. not the same).

This is how meme culture makes people dumber. Some of these are totalitarianism, some of them are just things you don't like. (How concerned are you about national security before you're "obsessed"? What qualifies as "controlled" media?)
Sigh. At least I used to get paid for teaching.
So how many of these boxes have to be checked before we can call them "fascists"?

Trump's first administration scoring 11/12 in its *FIRST**YEAR* was not enough for you?

My one constructive criticism on BlueSky, as a community: we need to “like” less and “retweet” more. In the absence of an algorithm, that’s the way we find each other and reward good content.

I can’t tell you how different it is on X now after so many people have left. I have always followed mostly right-wing accounts because I cover them, and they are running out of people to pick fights with. So they’re just mostly fighting with each other.
