I don’t care if you don’t “get” art!

Go to an art museum with a friend, you won’t regret it.

You can spend the whole time criticizing it for laughs or just using the imagery for seeds for conversation.

Maybe some of it will fascinate you. You don’t have to “get it” though. You can just “use” it.
Had the most amazing dream.

I saw the concept of indiscriminate context expansion having an inverse relationship with purpose and meaning.

At this point I can actually make more reliable, consistent, and even BETTER money per hour as a personal trainer than as a software engineer.

This isn't strictly b/c of AI -- globalization has been pushing things that way for years -- but AI certainly helped.

Coming out of my social break JUST to recommend you give @edzitron.com a listen on his "Business Idiots" audio essay trilogy.

You have to understand the hyper-industrialist, anti-human attitudes of the executive classes creating this AI bubble.

A rant flowing straight up from the muses themselves.
Part 3 of this week's Better Offline: I walk you through how The Era of the Business Idiot has led to a dramatic deceleration in innovation - and how the tech media must fight back against their ridiculous narratives to save Silicon Valley.

The United States wants the unilateral authority to decide who should be able to use certain technologies.

In a new piece, I talk about everything from Iran to Andor to discuss how US tech supremacy gives it power over others that it’s working hard to maintain — to all of our detriment.
Why should the US decide who can have certain tech?
Restrictions on Iranian and Chinese technology are about preserving US geopolitical power

This is the reality "stay on Twitter" people are ignoring: you're playing a carnival game rigged against you. Everything you do is suppressed and everything right-wingers do is promoted. You can't use organic engagement to beat hostile mods with herbicide. (Your "view" numbers are fake too, BTW.)
Over on X, Musk seems to be pushing his own posts directly onto users' notification pages, even if they do not follow him, in a category comically labeled 'Elon Musk' above the breaking news that 'Elon Musk posted'

He's making those X devs implement new levels of dear leader shit over there

If nothing else, we deserve UBI paid out from AI companies because we’re all investors in AI.
We deserve a universal basic income. Why?

Because we’re all shareholders in the economy.

If corporations can distribute profits to investors, why can’t the economy reward everyone who helps keep it running? It’s time for a federal UBI.

(1) You should follow @rob-sheridan.com because he's cool, but also

(2) note that the culture of Bluesky has promoted the creation of curated lists of things in a way that improves on the culture of Twitter, which HAD lists but not quite this way

(3) prosocial uses of social media, what a concept
For Small Business Saturday (and every day), consider supporting independent arts, crafts and more direct from creators right here on Bluesky! I worked with @davis.social to make the #BlueSkyNightMarket feed; add it here to shop: bsky.app/profile/did:...

I miss Mission to Xyxx. What's next??

(yes, I know i can listen to it again, that's not the point.)

I adored the Futurama-takes-over-Star Wars vibe and I'm impressed with the character development and commitment to continuity (often at their own hilariously belabored expense).

Any leads, anyone?

To wrap this all up, I did a little thread about Bluesky being open source software and what that means. This is very high level, it’s meant for folks who aren’t familiar with open source. Being open is very good.
This aspect is super cool. If you’re not familiar with open source, this means that people can actually view the code, it’s transparent. It also means that people could potentially write the code to make changes to it. It would be up to the Bluesky team to decide whether they incorporated that.
