👾💥DARK MATTER💥👾 What is it made of? Given the conflicting results (see chart, Physics 6, 136, Lang), is that even the right question? Somehow associated with matter, scientists know a little about what it isn't, but the mystery remains unsolved after many decades of research!

Tragically, the willfully ignorant low-lifes currently occupying the White House are proud of their occupancy of the lower half of the bell curve. If anything disproves the adage that suits maketh the man, it would be their treatment of Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval Office. He outshone them all!
On Friday we watched two cheap, low-life hoods trying to extort money from a drowning Ukranian man, his family and his country, while pretending they're not criminals because they wear suits.

If he gave the full asking price, they wouldn't even commit to saving his family, or country.

EXTORTION.

As far as I can recall, Lieutenant Columbo never lost a case.
"You said you were going to end the war in 24 hours, now it's 100 days. You're threatening Russia with tariffs that you're putting on Canada & Mexico. Was that the secret plan? Just one more thing, sir: How's the healthcare concept of a plan going? It's been way over two weeks."

To the lonely sea and the sky,
I left my son and Dalek there,

Does the #timescape theory herald the end of the 'physics doldrums' that began with the elevation of string theory into an unobserved & unprovable set of beliefs (SUSY), and ended when the exponential improvements in sensor tech overwhelmed us with observations that demanded a more direct approach?
Happy New Year everyone! We are starting 2025 with a look at that recent paper which claimed that dark energy doesn't exist and that we instead live in a "timescape".

Hertz, Clerk Maxwell, and Heaviside would have enjoyed these products of millimeterwave machine vision!
A reminder that humans are capable of great acts of wonder when we work together & embrace knowledge.

An international team of astronomers has discovered swarms of cold comets circling 74 nearby stars -- and got clear pictures of these "exocomet belts." 🧪🔭

Many if not most plastics go hand in hand with the fossil fuels they are made from. For succeeding generations to enjoy long lives in a world free from the endocrine disrupting effects of micro plastics pollution, we must find viable alternatives (such as glass, wood, & paper) before it's too late!

This sultry scene evokes for me the poignancy of Replicant's Soliloquy in Blade Runner (superbly portrayed by Rutger Hauer):
"I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate." [but unless we can learn to live & let live] "All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain."

Kudos to Kiwi Astronomers! Dark Energy? Maybe we don't need it! Having done work many years ago at NZ's U of Canterbury Mount John Observatory, I could not help but notice this article (see the report below for a link to the open-source journal article). www.msn.com/en-us/news/t...

Ron Burkey runs Virtual AGC. You can download software that faithfully emulates the AGC and executes real Apollo flight software. Compiler is included if you want to compile the original AGC codef. Amazing.

This cool bit of nerdism deserves wider recognition. While probably not as difficult as writing an AGC simulator (see the next post), it seems oddly more relevant now due to the interest in intelligent machines and machine vision.

A fun AI fact of broad significance. Like some cars, certain animals, e.g., army ants, can also be "trapped" by circles. They follow pheromone trails and can get stuck in a loop if the trail forms a circle, walking in circles until exhaustion sets in. Please reply if you know of other examples
