Not even for legacy mag cred.

What y'all need to understand is that "writing for the market" is flatly bonkers in traditional publishing, because "the market" when you start writing is not the same "market" that will be there when you finish the book, much less when they finally release it 2 years later.

Just write a good book.

This feels like an ad written, directed *and* acted by people who have
1. Never played a game
2. Never watched anyone play a game
3. Never seen anyone interact with Alexa
4. Never seen anyone interact full stop
5. Never been alone in a room?
just saw the worst gaming ad ive ever seen

They said no one would read it. She wrote anyway.

They said it didn't hit market trends. She wrote anyway.

They said it was too ambitious for a new author. She wrote anyway.

They said it wouldn't be real #literature. She wrote anyway.

She wrote anyway.

"You mean like love?"
"No, you fool. I love you exactly 87.3."
"That low?!"
"Well, you forgot to pick up the groceries. Normally you're in the 90s."
"Thanks..?"
"Anyway, there are things in life you cannot measure... Like stupidity."

performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

My mentions are full of people telling me not just about the books but about moments in their lives reading gave them, ppl who passed these titles along, the accidental match making of a book and reader in random shops and libraries, and of course, how words on a page made them into someone new 😭❤️

All I wanted to be was #famous. Back then, being a content creator seemed so fun.

But now I see the cruel comments on the backs of my eyelids when I try to sleep. I feel the pressure to post 24/7... or the audience might move on and never come back. I perform so much I forget how to stop.

Hi! I'm Nicole Sune Sbitani, and I write speculative fiction: mostly dark scifi, but I also dabble in horror and fantasy. My seal is buried at the bottom of a mother-of-pearl chest and locks away the secrets every family hides.
Ah, good evening, friend. Dr. Bedlam, at your service. Our esoteric laboratory has just opened. Come in, we are doing vital work on studying the cosmic unknown. Tell us, what do you write, and what seal do you own that contains a Terrible Truth hidden from Humanity?

I conjured a pointy hat and placed it on my head just the right amount of crooked.

I enchanted my skirts so that when I twirled, sparks flew.

I braided newt tails into my hair.

I dusted my lashes with spider legs.

It's time to show all the other witches that I mean #business.
