In terms of impact to CCSD, the decreased revenue to the state caused by AB5 means a loss of over $20M/year in support from the Education Fund through the funding formula. CCSD may be the sole beneficiary of Pre-K funds, but like every other Nevada district, CCSD will lose funding with AB5's passage

In the Regular Session, NSEA strongly supported SB460 as introduced, as it expanded Pre-K opportunities for the entire state, not just one county as AB5 does. We were disappointed to see millions of dollars for pre-k removed in the final version. #NVLeg

"When you give away tax revenue like that, you limit the state's ability to hire teachers, fundamental health supports, improve infrastructure, all of which actually drive long-term job growth," said Marks. #SchoolsOverStudios #NVLeg

Special Sessions exist for true emergencies, not corporate wish lists. The real emergency is that Nevada ranks 48th in per-pupil funding and has the largest class sizes in the country. The solution to that crisis is not a flashy tax credit scheme that drives Nevada off the fiscal cliff. #NVLeg

The budget impacts of tax credits are real. They drain Nevada’s general fund, the same fund that supports students, educators, and essential public services. When you give away tax revenue, you limit the state’s ability to hire educators, fund vital services, and improve infrastructure.

This is the type of crisis that merits a special session. The budget impacts of transferable tax credits are real. Every dollar spent on one of these flashy but fiscally reckless projects is a dollar we don’t see in our schools.

Most Nevada educators will get no increases under this budget. With their last raise coming in 2024 and now in 2 year contracts, Nevada educators will go without a raise for 3 years while costs continue to go up! Over the next two years, we will experience another exodus of educators.
