Just a few months after Gov. Lombardo signed a budget increasing education funding by only $2 per student, a de facto education cut, he’s now called a Special Session to giveaway $1.65B in public money to Hollywood Executives. If Hollywood is the emergency, then Nevada’s leaders have lost the plot.

NSEA believes the 2026 election is about ensuring our students finally get the public schools they deserve, and Attorney General Aaron Ford has demonstrated through both his record and lived experience that he will be the Governor to help deliver for Nevada’s students, educators, and families.

This morning, NSEA spoke at the State Board of Education meeting. Item 10 relates to creating a policy agenda to guide its engagement with the #NVLeg. Nevada needs more aggressive voices to advocate for public education and the Board should adopt these policies. Be that voice students need.

Incredibly disappointing to see Gov. Lombardo veto AB155 to include class size as a mandatory subject of bargaining. Nevada continues to struggle with the largest class sizes in the nation, and this is a direct result of the years of chronic underfunding of our schools. #NVLeg #TwoDollarSession

Public funds should serve the public good, not subsidize corporate profits. The credits have not yet rolled on the 83rd session, and Senate has the chance to rewrite this ending put essential services like education at the center of our budget, not on the cutting room floor. #SchoolsOverStudios

The budget impacts of tax credits are real. According to the Economic Forum, Nevada will lose $119M in general fund revenue to tax credits this year, $148M next year, and $160M in the following year. These are dollars that could support education. AB238 would strip away an another $110M annually.

NSEA echos the view of our national affiliate, the National Education Association: Voter suppression is not a relic of the past, it’s happening right now. Every day, educators across the United States are introducing our students to the principles of democracy.

Tonight, the marquee reads “Studios Over Schools: The $2 Session,” Rated F like our national rankings, for fiscal recklessness and misplaced priorities.

On the same day the Governor signed a budget increasing education funding by $2, the Assembly voted to give $1.65B in public money to Hollywood.
