astrology can be very hard to talk about with the majority of people (often including other astrologers!) because both its study and practice is deeply intertwined with epistemology, aka how we know what we know and to what extent we can know it. plus, metaphysics, history, and translation!

Pingree's refusal to gloss over the importance of folly in the evolution of knowledge was part and parcel of his devotion to investigating primary sources.
