Started wiki.novasquirrel.com/index.php?ti... to collect together tiny game patches I've done. That seems like the kind of thing that's helpful to have on a page somewhere, but maybe would be out of place on my main site and out of place on other wikis I use.

I like the creativity with making different choices for the color you do get to select, instead of just going with black like I usually see done with CGA.

I meet a lot of people who are interested, but are too busy to be able to set aside a few hours here and there to play, and I think the only thing I can actually do about that is just find more people and hope some are available more often. But I don't think I can intentionally find more people.

I'm not feeling confident that I have the server configured correctly, or that I added TLS correctly, but I guess if it appears to work and I haven't run into problems yet that's probably fine? Unsure to what degree OpenSimulator even works with TLS anyway, considering I think the protocol is UDP?

That also added some code complexity because the game has a generic system for changing registers on specific scanlines, so there has to be second list of changes for no battle bar, so the code needs to insert portrait colors into two possible places depending on if there's a battle bar or not.

I'm working on implementing the rest of the multiplayer modes after first setting up Tug-of-War, which means being able to handle not having a battle bar, which comes with displaying something else at the bottom of the screen, which in this case meant more tiles to make good use of the space.

I am realizing that "this feature will only take a day or two and be really cool!" actually tends to have a lot of hidden effort behind it where I realize that actually it does need more work than the 2-day prototype. So I'll probably try to avoid adding new stuff for now unless it really is simple.

I did end up giving Tilemap Town a way to focus on just private messages, which helps with the still-not-ideal UI for doodle boards, and I made it much more bandwidth efficient which made me comfortable allowing bigger boards and higher-color boards. Good place to leave the feature for now.

Feels like maybe it's best for important services like Tilemap Town to be on their own servers instead of trying to cram like 8 things onto one VPS and hoping none of them end up being detrimental to the other things. I think my current setup is fine though, just it was too full to add much more.

I set up a second VPS for this, and I set up some mirrors: code.novasquirrel.com/explore/repos
I don't plan on having anything exclusively here right now but it's nice to have in case I do need to actually *move* my stuff somewhere that will work for my projects.

I mean, I guess technically if I had gazillions of dollars I could solve the problem of "friends' jobs are making them too busy," which is probably my main problem hehe.

tcrf.net/Bugs:Castlev... and in Castlevania's case, bringing it over to the US added a crash you could get towards the end of the game, due to something they missed in the process of moving it from being a Famicom Disk System game to a cartridge game.

www.netcup.com/en/server/vps Oh huh, yeah if the service works well then $4/month for those kinda specs sounds really good. Thanks for pointing out that host.

My VPS has one gigabyte of RAM and has a few hundred megabytes of RAM left over from everything it's currently hosting. I could probably shut down some stuff to make some room but then I'm weighing whatever it is over like, losing having a wiki. Or committing to paying more for a bigger VPS.

I dunno to what degree scraper bots using excessive amounts of resources is actually an issue, but based on what I've heard it ends up discouraging me from hosting anything web-based unless it's static pages or simple and that's sad for decentralization. Don't want tons of bots on my home connection
