and half the US reviews were like “Gotham looks so gritty and run down, a real shithole, which is really good” and then on the screen it was just blatantly Glasgow and Liverpool

Sunak did move the Tories towards flat-out climate denial though, which still could be hugely destructive in the long-term

absolutely certain that when he dies a significant number of GOP voters and politicians will create a belief that he isn't truly dead and we'll start getting pretenders/reincarnations popping up like in medieval Europe

“never thought someone would plot behind my back up to a year out from a leadership contest!” - Prime Minister who famously plotted behind the leader’s back up to a year in advance of a leadership contest

their theory of health isn’t much better, given it relies on cutting the number of health boards to three, in a country that simply cannot be sliced into three sensible pieces

(are the entire Highlands and Islands’ health services going to be administered from Dundee?)

the NI Education Minister during Covid, Peter Weir, got given a peerage

considering Arlene Foster got one, that doesn't necessarily mean he did a good job...

in any normal administration, the Cabinet Secretary responsible for the 2020 exam diet would've resigned in disgrace and never got back to the frontbench

the most you allude to it, imo, is some reference to powers-that-be "killing off" the OO section, or it having lost its best agents, or something

no need for any more than that

(Brosnan and Craig just walk into MI6 without reference to their predecessors - it's normal!)

went to see GoldenEye in the cinema when it was re-released the other week

since it is the last Bond movie with a big production gap before it - do we really think it would have been improved by a comprehensive explanation of whatever happened to Timothy Dalton?

the *whole point* of the series is that the films share a conceit and central character but the individual films don't have anything to do with one another

it *only* works as a film series if you expect that, and the next era should obviously be a hard reboot with no reference to Craig at all

pretty sure that, in his Select Committee hearing for the Ofcom gig, he defended his record on equalities issues by stating that he, personally, was the person who cancelled the Black and White Minstrel Show

really winds me up how the people who use “student politics” as an insult, don’t use it to describe an actual student politicians who end up in politics, like all the Tory Oxford Union hacks, or ex-NUS Wes Streeting

it's really funny how they announced the rigging of the Regional List positions *after* the Boundary Commission drew Monica Lennon into the same region as the four incumbent Glasgow MSPs, who are all running again

what a coincidence, strange how that worked out
November 7, 2025 at 8:29 PM
this is arguably true of the Tories in the current Parliament

but a good example of this is that, of the eight seats the Lib Dems won at the 2015 GE, only four of them still have a Lib Dem MP now

only one agency polls in NI - LucidTalk - and they generally do four polls a year, one a quarter

their October poll had the NI Greens on 4%, which would be their best ever result, ahead of the 2009 Euro election (3.3%) and the 2016 Assembly election (2.7%)

if he thought getting Labour into office was a challenge, he could’ve tried helping Fine Gael win an Irish Presidential election
November 5, 2025 at 6:46 PM
actual Football Manager player Anas Sarwar could legitimately do this

(don’t think the Tories will let James Cleverly paint Warhammer minifigs on camera any time soon)
November 5, 2025 at 1:37 PM
the Dem margins in New Jersey/Virginia Governor's races are way, way more important for the imminent future of US politics, since those are in places that actually resemble the key battlegrounds of Presidential/Congressional politics

but that's a more boring story, so it won't get the coverage
November 5, 2025 at 11:27 AM
big contrast with Starmer who, by all accounts, does not like Actual Politics that much
November 5, 2025 at 10:33 AM
and the Spain/Sweden/Denmark/Northern Ireland one!

(which I did a mad lockdown project writing an Alternate History story about, so i’m biased)
