sure, but to the original point, one was a dead rubber on the final day, which is an acceptable problem, and the other in 01/02 was in the *second* group stage, which, given it also had 12 games before the Quarters, would also be a better format than the status quo, imo

just for absolute clarity, here are the comments from both MacDonald and the LD spokesperson

while I disagree with him, MacDonald is significantly asking about Home Office process, while the LD frontbench is notably to the left of Labour on aid and supporting the right to asylum

NESO's lovely graphics might be my favourite bit of public-sector comms - that wind percentage is only going up on windy winter days, based on projects that have already been commissioned

changing the system to STV for Holyrood elections was in the 2021 Lib Dem manifesto, for the record - page 43-44 here: www.scotlibdems.org.uk/about-us/our...

also the Oakland Coliseum has been hosting cricket matches in Major League Cricket - a few more baseball parks had exhibition cricket matches back in 2015: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cricket...

enjoyed this pod - using the Olympics as an example is probably cheating, but at the 2012 London Olympics, the beach volleyball was on Horse Guards Parade, which is where the King inspects the troops (and used to be used for car parking)

he is also misremembered in that, before his untimely death, he was considering making a maiden speech to resign from the Commons and cause a by-election anyway - the by-election which Bobby Sands eventually won - and which Maguire's brother was...persuaded...not to stand in

it was to do with mental health and eligibility for benefits, not nationality, which Jardine has a direct and personal reason for having strong feelings about, as per her resignation letter:

Brighton bomb was definitely much closer

the security services were impressed by the Downing Street attack, though, on a purely technical level

hilarious/excellent Major quote, too

Alex Cole-Hamilton says he won't prop up an SNP-led government

Ross Greer says he won't prop up a Labour-led government

so a (plausible) Holyrood outcome that looks like this next May leads to...a second election in the autumn?

maddest thing about NI21 is that its main figure had a correct, almost Cassandra-like critique of the strategic errors of the DUP, which no-one in political unionism listened to

totally forgot O’Neill was ever in the frame for the England job

wonder if he told the FA officials about this offside decision given against him at 0-0 in a World Cup quarter-final - worse than the Hand of God imo
