It's our 20th wedding anniversary this weekend. This is a lovely present.

I mean, to be fair on the Tories I doubt they approved of us getting married even then. As soon as they got into power they brought in rules that would have blocked us from doing so, as I wasn't earning enough at the time.

Not to mention that the Tories brought in policies making it harder than ever for non-UK/Commonwealth citizens to get jobs, making finding a new one incredibly hard.

Nor the fact that she's been living here paying taxes for 28 years.

I mean, this basically means that if my wife loses her job - which isn't wildly unlikely given the ongoing fallout of the Tories' destruction of the British economy via Brexit and Truss - then she gets deported.

Part of my thinking here is very much inspired by Labour's frankly disgusting failure to champion the benefits of immigration. The dog whistle of the child benefits cap has evolved into outright bullshit that would have been too much even for Theresa fucking May in full Hostile Environment mode.
