Used to be a European politics blogger. Occasionally considering a revival. Still looking for that Twitter alternative. Also on Mastodon, Threads, etc and rarely doing much there either.
To take my mind off the resurgence of mainstream political parties scapegoating foreigners rather than admit that *they* fucked us all over, I'm practicing my French via the excellent Atlas de Paris, by Danielle Chadych and Dominique Leborgne, found in a charity shop for £4 and worth ten times that.

"Now?" I mean, I'm not a massive US history buff, but has there ever been a period where political violence *wasn't* a feature of US life?
Every single gun death in the US is due to a deliberate political choice, and so an example of political violence, FFS!

In happier news, earlier I watched the gloriously shot 1962 film Ilektra, directed by Michael Cacoyannis, but made astonishing by Walter Lassaly's cinematography.
And Irene Papas, obviously. Her eyes are insane. In every sense of the word

Don't include the words "David Cameron" and "big" in the same headline. I misread it and got flashbacks.

I started reading this before the Supreme Court's reductive, reactionary ruling. That ruling has, however, made this much more topical - especially the righteous anger of the concluding chapter, ranting about the harm binary views of sex and gender cause to *all* women. Recommend.
