Bizarre when I ask recs for a tailor for a cosplayish project and people get mad that I don't accept suspicious website mass producing clothes in typical sweatshop countries. They even shat on the one tailor that was brought up for being expensive? I thought nerd spaces would support artists.

If you're posting about the Tylenol thing, congrats. Your attention has been successfully diverted from the Epstein files.

EU getting their own search index, independent from Bing and Google. At least that's good news.

Everything you do hurts the climate. The point is to find ways that are feasible for you to do that reduce the load. It's the pursuit of perfection and the snootyness of anyone doing less than that turns people off from even trying. Put in a little effort to change what YOU can.

While this is an issue, I don't like the resignation. Capitalism *did not* take away community from people - that's on you. And also, this shows that despite it all, many people are just comfortable *enough* to not do anything. If your ass was directly on the line, you would be doing something.

Yeah, I feel like the past 20 years I've kept hearing how bad the education system in America is. This is why investing to it is paramount.

An uncomfortable line of thought: I think we can all agree that the child Elon is dragging with him everywhere is likely to be severely fucked up. Best thing for him is for Elon to get bored of using him as a prop when he's old enough so he can go to his mom who may be able to undo...

Watch how Right-wing is starting to fudge the difference between the words "boycott" and "vandalism". They are talking about the Tesla boycott as if that was the same as vandalizing Tesla cars and dealerships. This is propaganda 101, they are trying to make "boycott" sound like an illegal activity.

The nonsense at #Reddit is a great example of how it's clearly too big for itself. If a site has so much (seeming) use that they can't (won't) hire humans to moderate and instead rely on a really bad auto-mod to do sweeping bans, it is unsustainable. But hey, great time for Lemmy join-lemmy.org

There's some great reflection to be done with our social media use. How much of *actually* valuable things do you get from mindlessly scrolling junk, a lot of which has been posted by content farms?

The Fediverse Isn’t the Future. It’s the Present We’ve Been Denied.
For years, the internet has been shrinking. Not in size, not in data, but in ownership. A vast, decentralized network of personal blogs, forums, and independent communities has been corralled into a h...

We need a much more heavily regulated social media, or we need some verification that a user is a real person. We cannot have the current level of free speech online, combined with anonymity and algorithms. Way too powerful of a toy in the hands of a humanity clearly not mature enough to handle it.

Governments should never, ever get a backdoor access to private online messaging. If it's there at all, it can be abused. I get the arguments about highly illegal and dangerous contents but the potential damage from abuse is far too great to be allowed. #privacy #fascism
