@glasgowcc.bsky.social has embarked on the avenues project to build a substantial network of #cycling and pedestrian infrastructure to transform the city from car centric to more #activetravel centric. It’s a slow process but worth reading

#Glasgow, a city that rarely saves its built heritage and instead bulldozes it. City leaders have done so much damage to this beautiful city over the last 60 years and still it continues and we learn nothing

An interesting piece though I’m more in the camp of remove the entire inner city stretch of the M8. An open wound in the city… articles like this will hopefully inspire imaginative thinking and solutions we can support
"The A40(M)..has sliced through the inner suburbs of West London since 1970, having caused Haussmann-style devastation during its construction. Now, thanks to a complex..process, it has become an integral part of the city." Interesting piece, on healing the M8's scar. www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v4...

Unsure sure how many organisations need to declare the Israeli war on Palestine as genocide before the British govt will accept it & apply sanctions and cut ties
Failure to act when you know is culpability Aiding & abetting is complicity @teamlabouruk.bsky.social

I’d hoped the Scottish govt would have reintroduced the all day off peak train fares which they removed in September making the train so expensive that most people I know reverted back to driving the M8 again. I simply go into the office less now. @thesnp.bsky.social #publictransport

Much talk about cycling infrastructure to allow travel through a city but cycling sport infrastructure a also transformative. #Glasgow Velodrome Is such a fantastic facility to have available to everyone and affordable too. So a random picture of my bike at the Chris Hoy bike cage

Why being close to a cycle network can boost house prices
New research suggests house buyers “price in” access to cycle routes.

#Glasgow is slowly building #cycling infrastructure. It feels like it’s at a glacial speed but seems to be gathering pace. Some of the original stuff was terrible but the new stuff is starting to feel like they’re getting it mostly right

Which accounts are we missing still for #cycling? Has Pog got an account yet and where at #GCN?
Any pro cyclists migrated over?

Hey @glasgowwestend.bsky.social same story in Byres Road if people would stop simply looking at everything from a car centric view
The Ontario government wants to remove bike lanes in Toronto. The city's shopkeepers are protesting, explaining that the lanes have been good for their business and providing figures to support their claims.

A typical European car spends 1/5th of its driving time looking for parking. Its 5 seats only move 1.5 people, and it’s been getting bigger & heavier. 86% of its fuel never reaches the wheels, and most of the energy that does is needed to move the car itself, not the people in it.

Sound efficient?
