Huge congratulations to @tszfung.bsky.social on successfully defending his PhD! (Co-advised with @charleston.bsky.social )
Plenty of cool insights and methods detailed in his dissertation, "Inferring genetic architecture of complex traits in admixed populations"

It can be hard to compete against ipads, but these books have provided my 9yo with some fun puzzles

This is wild. Hotelling's 1930 unpublished work (later provided by Ore) detailing differential geometric approach to describe statistical distributions used population genetics as its first example application.
Perhaps not that surprising given his communications with Fisher, but still neat!

Fig 2 in the same report. Its fun to just make false claims that aren't backed up at all by data.

This is the supplemental poverty measure (SPM), which is different from the official poverty measure (OPM). The statistics for OPM suggest decreased poverty under Biden. Its in the same report fer goodness sake.

I really really want to try out Typer for argument parsing in Python, but the design decision for adding 'help' strings is insane.
This is a ton of boilerplate that mixes semantics between command line information with basic type semantics.
I'm thinking Click might be the sweet spot.

Unfortunately this is all I could muster, photo-wise. We did hit up Ted's, Bocce Pizza, and Ilio Di Paolos. It was a short trip and some constraints limited where we could eat/venture. Made sure to hit up Watson's chocolates to grab sponge candy and some other goodies :D

PGS "validation" in families comes with its own biases and effect estimates (ie R/R2) don't necessarily reflect causal signals. Emphasis on internal validity breaking down when there exist GxE within families.
Now WHICH set of phenotypes are historically known for complex GxE for families. 🤔

Spent a few days camping up at Grays Meadows. One of my favorite sites in CA for folks with young kids.
There is a creek from snowmelt higher up that runs right through the site, which provides lots of entertainment, and a place to cool off!
