I have had people complain to me about their kid's woke private school and I explain that they should send their kid to public school like a normal person.

I'm convinced that 75-85% of NIMBYism is simply "I am older now and I hate it and I want the places where I spent my younger days to look the same so I can pretend I'm not as old as I am."

Cuomo doing as well as he did feels like it has more to do with his having a famous name and the support of the city’s Dem machine than it does with Dem voters in general wanting to give people like Cuomo a pass for their (pretty heinous) sins.

Right! Manchin and Mamdani are both Dem MVPs in their own way and anyone who can't navigate that dynamic to the overall benefit of the party needs to make room for someone who can.

I think Sonja Trauss said something to the effect of NIMBYism is homeowners' reaction to their own mortality and I kinda feel like that explains more of Schumer's behavior toward Mamdani than donor pandering or the Brooklyn machine or whatever.

I feel like you could call this “Christian democracy” - not the white chauvinism that brands itself “Christian” but the meek, humble, help-your-neighbor kind I think a lot of liberals are familiar with.

Yeah, Marxist class analysis only really makes sense for societies that need to integrate peasants into the politics and economy of industrializing societies (19th century Europe, 20the century China).
