There's only 8,760 hours in a year, it's an energy geek thing to know that - so how on earth did water companies manage 4 million hours worth of poo dumping in our rivers.

Definition of a 'shit tonne' right there.

The government is cracking down on benefit fraud—but where’s the crackdown on tax fraud? Billions are lost every year to companies dodging tax, yet ministers focus on tracking the poorest.
@richardjmurphy.bsky.social reports
Why is the government obsessed with benefit fraud?
The government continues to pursue benefit fraud while ignoring tax fraud. Yet the latter is far larger. Why?

French lower house votes through wealth tax.

A 2% minimum tax rate on the wealth of individuals whose net worth exceeds €100m.

It is not yet law.

UK needs to do similar to reduce inequalities. Instead govts penalise low/middle income families and make poor pay more for crumbling infrastructure.

Scrap austerity – tax the super-rich instead.

Britain can’t rebuild with more cuts – a wealth tax on the richest is the fair alternative to funding public services and growth.

Great to talk about this report with @matthew-wright.bsky.social on @lbc.co.uk just after 8am this morning.

We have just over 3 months until the UK/EU summit.
Now is the moment to make the case for closer alignment with the EU. The prize is a growth dividend worth tens of billions to the economy.
🚨NEW RESEARCH🚨

Closer ties with the EU could deliver growth of up to 2.2%.

Clawing back up to half of the damage caused by Brexit.

Delivering double the impact of a UK-US trade deal, according to the govt's own analysis.

And all within Starmer's red lines.

Most people think leaving the EU was a mistake - but don't expect politicians to reopen the Brexit question
Five years on, even many of those who still champion Brexit, including Nigel Farage, concede that it has "failed" - so why are the main parties afraid to tell voters they got it wrong?
