The PM was right to call Reform's plans to scrap Indefinite Leave to Remain racist.

But if we force migrants to meet standards far beyond those who were born here, that is discriminatory too.

Migrants shouldn't have to do a Duke of Edinburgh award to be able to stay in the UK.

If scrapping indefinite leave to remain (ILR) entirely, as Reform would do, is racist, according to Labour, what is making ILR twice as difficult, expensive & humiliating to obtain, as Labour are doing?

It is not just the increase to the Minimum Income Requirement which needs scrapping, it is MIR in general. This is a policy which see families ripped apart, and people denied the ability to be with their loved ones, purely because of where one of them was born.

Starmer doesn't seem to realise that, if you consistently accept the way your opponents frame a question, you'll find it hard to reject the answers that they give.

If you keep telling voters that Farage is right in his analysis, it will be hard to persuade them that he's wrong in his prescriptions.

Imagine if as well as pubs & village halls, communities could dream big & purchase beloved rivers, woods & peat bogs. Labour’s forthcoming Community Right to Buy could enable this but rumours are circulating that it's at risk of being dropped. Read more from @guyshrubsole.bsky.social
Why communities need the power to own environmental assets
What’s of value to communities very often includes their local environment – access to nature, fresh air, clean rivers, abundant wildlife. The government shouldn’t be putting a lid on what communities say they value – instead, they ought to be unleashing the public’s imagination.

Bit of perspective on today's immigration stats. An 18% increase in people seeking asylum still equates to roughly 0.1% of the population, not a lot, and a hell of a lot lower than quite a few countries. Also, small boats account for a third of those, so not a big issue either. 1/

A wild, must read. Resonated with me since our nearby Sam Smiths, The Abbey, has finally reopened. Darley Abbey's only pub, in a Grade II listed building, was left empty for 5 years, despite plenty of people asking to run it and the council trying to help. What a strange, sad way to run a business.
