There's no perfect analogy here. A bird flew into a door and had life-ending injuries. That same day Mom, choosing her option for peace, died too.

That dead bird was on a covered porch. It had flown into the glass door, but there was a wooden door behind it. It seemed strange the bird would have thought that a safe direction, there was no reflection of clear blue sky, no wide open spaces behind it.

At the hospital, there was an aviary near a waiting area where family gathered. Birds chirping and flying around. Mom was upstairs dying but so many others were certainly being saved in those many floors above.

Mom died a few hours later.

As we walked out the door to go the hospital, there was a dead bird on the porch. I moved the bird off the porch and thought, "Thanks, universe, for the heads up that it will be quick. Today is the day."

My husband and I gave each other a knowing look as we went to the car.

Yes this thing does need to go through five levels of approval because all these departments have an angle the other doesn't and if you skip one department this whole thing is gonna crumble because no one else thought about a small but consequential conflict.
