Talk with me about thrift & vintage; cozy forests; learning useful skills (home repair, food preservation, "make do & mend", etc); and how we maintain love, justice, wonder, & beauty in this crazy world.
Plates should be lightweight. (Corelle) Mugs should be heavy. (stoneware) Bowls should have a variety of weights. (Thin bowl for salad, heavy for soup, etc.) A weighty fork is better than a light one. Glasses should walk a line between dainty beauty and sturdy strength.

Was at my childhood friend's parents house yesterday and am happy to report the bathroom is still amazing.

Bank: here's an offer for a high yield savings account rate.

Me: great!

Bank: just deposit $10k and leave it there for a year to qualify.

Me: you can see my account details, right?

And it has indeed come to pass.
Trump in a room with a very charismatic person results in like half a day of Trump agreeing with everything that person said, so this has the potential to be very, very funny.

My brain is so immersed in thrift shopping that the idea of buying a brand new gift for someone just seemd ludicrous. What do you mean you just bought one of many identical things off a shelf? You didn't go on a treasure hunt? I guess a generic gift with no history or soul is fine.

Lady who is buying something from me from Facebook is 5 minutes late and I was 20 minutes early and I do not have the temperament for this

Those glass Christmas ornaments that are bulky shaped and bright colors often with glitter make me physically uncomfortable. I can feel their texture just looking at a picture and it makes my skin crawl.

When I was single I had SO MANY big feelings about Xmas presents.

Now married and I DO NOT CARE about presents with my spouse. We aren't doing them this year.

But my single feelings were valid. Consider stretching your capacity this holiday to send cheer to your single friends.

Astonishing to stop and realize that, at any given moment, bands of masked men armed to the teeth are storming churches and daycares, terrorizing entire communities—and that most of the country's political establishment barely blinks.

In May I was playing an online game of bird-themed Wingspan when I got the call that Mom decided to have life support removed.

A small group of us had been playing every Saturday morning for over a year. I was grateful to be with friends, even virtually via cameras, as I got the news.

Have I talked about how my new thing is deeply understanding why "red tape" exists?

Some person charged with implementing the ideas of other people got tired of a) not being given all info and/or b)being penalized for making calls on options that the idea-haver had undisclosed feelings about.

Hot water has been restored for $10!
Walking into a hardware store and quickly and confidentiality locating the doo-dad I need to make our lives better (restore some power) gives me such confidence. I am woman. Hear me roar.

We have a housing crisis in the US

In 1985, the median income was $23,620, and the median price of a home was $84,300 - 3.6 times the typical income

In 2023, the median price of a home was $428,600 - 5.3 times the median income of $80,061

50-year mortgages are NOT the answer; we need more houses

2025: cat died, covid finally got us, mom died, helped Dad move from home of 40 yrs, stressful medical things for us and those we love, plus national chaos and some painful family dynamics.

But, also closer than ever to some big dreams and there is so much light on the horizon.

What a year.

The psychology of why "matching donations" work to increase total donations drives me absolutely crazy from a "humans are silly creatures" standpoint.

I see all these conversations happening telling people not to consume new holiday decor every year and am slightly perplexed because I thought a significant charm of the holidays is pulling out the same old decor that's been a part of your Christmas for 42 years.

Christmas decorations are just gonna forever have a Mom memorial aspect to them.

Some of her angels set up here.

We both loved old fashioned Christmas decor.

In a mater of months the richest man alive, who was not elected, has cut USAID and now 700,000 are dead. The billionaire president is doing everything possible not to give 42 million people access to food. Just in case you’re wondering what the history books will focus on.

If I wasn't already boycotting them this would make me avoid the store.

I have been known to pass over my shopping basket/cart to the 4th employee who asked if I needed help and walk out of other stores.
