Exactly! To me this is just another instance of companies trying to circumvent the people doing the work and/or shoehorning GenAI in to make the tech seem necessary. It currently does not effectively work without massive theft and I don’t see signs of that being resolved any time soon.

At that point you could pay artists to generate features of the portrait (hair, eyes, mouth, nose, ears, etc) within certain confines, randomize them, and get a better result than a model trained *from scratch* on 200 portraits.

This is more or less how a character creation menu is done today.

The money would be better spent on artists to just do it from the outset.

I’ve pondered similar thoughts, trying to find an “ethical way” for GenAI to be used where artists get their due, but it requires huge inputs. That sample size is no where near large enough to train an AI model from scratch.

Excited to use these to fuel my options when I don’t know what to watch next.

This will be a growing issue as malignant or misinformed individuals increasingly rely on LLMs to execute work they have no business operating in. Even worse as these same people expect AI agents to replace the minds they actually vetted to do the work.
