We use it for the summer months, no season specific proper preface to worry about. Could also use it in between epiphany and Lent.

If it has Jason Statham in it, I'll watch it, cause you know it'll scratch that itch.

Well (allegedly) you're only playing 10 out of 34 games against your division opponents (you play every other team in the league once) so that's a lot of schedule space to account for weather-based scheuling

I had big plans, bringing the kids, my brother and his kids, lifetime memories for littles to have them love soccer forever...can't swing thousands for one game for a 3 year old 🙃

Shaun of the dead and Tucker and Dale were my first two thoughts as well

Definitely unfortunate for the poor time management by those running convention to have a slot for business scheduled for literally the last thing of the day, and then purposefully run late all day (lunch and table convos really had me frustrated on time management)

With that said, if you are interested in developing an Episcopal group around discussing the dangers of AI in church settings, and helping craft resolutions for your own diocese, please dm me and let's keep the conversation going!

I am grateful that the resolution did not fail (It was sent to the diocesan council for consideration) however, it is still disappointing that it didn't pass as written because we have a duty and to fail to live into that duty with urgency is alarming.

It is the duty of the church to make public statements against things that cause harm. AI particularly in the form of llms like chatGPT cause harm. Just because they can (sorta) be used by only causing minimal harm does not mean we should encourage their use, particularly in the church.

AI has been fully embraced by the Trump administration (along with crypto) because it is a tool for the wannabe fascist to continue to control and manipulate populace by making everyone ultra reliant on technology rather than on our own intellect and on one another in community with each other.

This is a direct reaction to our generation's groundswell that led to the election of Barak Obama during the recession of 2008. Regulations were put in. Now they're gone. The nation couldn't stand a Black Man as President, but needed a candidate to say that (Trump) rather than a politician (Romney).

Boomers (and older) have not ever had reason to question capitalism, it worked for them! GenX can break either way on the question. Millennials have felt the full brunt of the failures of capitalism and have watched every regulation get stripped away once more.

As @josephpmathews.bsky.social noted in his thread which includes the link above, the statements against and for broke on...interesting...generational lines. Which has caused me to reflect further on how deeply entwined AI is already in our systems of capitalism.

And, there might be genuine AI uses in church settings (closed captioning for the live hybrid Convention for example, that we definitely used at our host site for accessibility). Certain, specific, uses of AI make sense, because it's not actually intelligence, it's just good software.

Since AI cannot feel, it cannot have empathy. If you don't have empathy while writing a sermon, a prayer, a liturgy, or in offering pastoral care, then what are you even doing? We were intentional about narrowing our resolution to these four areas, noting that AI is pervasive already.

I was privileged with offering our resolution with the initial statement for, noting that AI doesn't "dream, feel, or create art it aggregates it" (DC Comics President Jim Lee).
