Politicians run campaigns pledging to rein in the police, wealthy developers, and other entrenched blocs in their cities—but then find these establishment forces too powerful to overcome in office.

But Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has figured it out. trib.al/MOtxSjw
This Democrat Proves You Can Be Principled, Effective—and Popular
Zohran Mamdani has pointed to Boston Mayor Michelle Wu as a model. There are many good reasons why.

President Trump’s so-called Big Beautiful Bill is an attack on the people of Boston. The President and his supporters in Congress are jamming a bill through that will steal health insurance and food assistance from thousands of Boston families while giving massive tax cuts to billionaires.

What hasn’t been said is a lot of this energy is has been generated in social movements - this generation has been disproportionately involved in mass street protests over the last decade. Electoralism - for candidates their age that they have vetted - is a new front.
Probably the very last person to post this, but holy shit.

This is unheard of. I don't think I've ever seen an election where youth turnout exceeded middle-aged, much less elderly people.

And huge props to @bradlander.bsky.social for being a true leader, fighter & coalition-builder 🙌
WBUR's @thebrodybeat.bsky.social asked Boston Mayor Michelle Wu about the NYC race and Zohran Mamdani on Monday, after Mamdani recently pointed to Wu as a model.

"If New York is to have that kind of leadership, that would be a really thrilling thing to be able to partner," Wu said.

Possible to start to tell a unified story: "Trump is personally too old, crazy, and confused to run things, so at any given time the question is which co-president is in charge. At first it was Musk, & we got the crazy chaotic DOGE era. Then Navarro: a trade war that crashed markets. Now Miller..."

Yeah, guys. I regret to inform you that this is actually really good 🤷🏾‍♀️ It’s a storytelling & morale boosting exercise. Booker’s doing policy analysis & telling constituent stories & also encouraging/shuzing other D Senators. Part bullhorn, part relationship building.
I was skeptical but it’s gone on long enough to be genuinely disruptive. (They should also deny unanimous consent but) The YouTube comments are also euphoric. The supply of energy among party faithful is worth quite a bit. Not to mention the storytelling/framing that it allows D’s to do.

Where have I heard this rhetoric before? In which country has this rhetoric seized state power? How is that working out?

I think some in the Senate have convinced themselves that the backlash to folding will be limited to “the left” and therefore ignorable.

Those people are deeply and profoundly misreading the moment and the stakes.

Virtually every swing district House Dem walked the plank to vote NO for a reason.

It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office.

Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc.

Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.
