The burden of cold and ever-recurring existence weighed down his spirit.

'Sentimental Value' is another excellent film from Joachim Trier. If like me you could watch Renate Reinsve walking the streets of Oslo being sad and beautiful forever, this delivers more of that, but also some powerful family drama. It wasn't fully emotional devastating but it made me reflect a lot

'Nouvelle Vague' is the second Linklater of the Fest and I think I liked this one slightly more. I'd be interested in hearing how it works for someone who hasn't seen Breathless and knows even less about the French New Wave than I do but for me this works as a very stylish evocation of that era.

'Die My Love' was not quite as terrifying as I thought it would be, but it's still very good, Jennifer Lawrence is as brilliant as everyone says and Pattinson not far behind. Some shocking moments but overall more ambiguous than expected, whether that's for the better is debatable.

'Bugonia' exceeded my expectations, it added enough twists and turns in addition to the big one most people will go in already guessing. Two titanic performances from Stone and Plemons and some really funny dark moments and 2 superb needle drops. I know Lanthimos is a marmite director but I like him

In this thread I will detail the films I see as part of Leeds International Film Festival, starting tonight with the opening film which is about an opening night, Richard Linklater's 'Blue Moon'. An excellent film about creativity on the wane anchored by an amazing central performance by Ethan Hawke

I was in need of a distraction last night so I turned to the cinema, and saw 'The Mastermind' which I really loved, I'm ashamed to admit that this was my first ever Kelly Reichardt film! I need to delve into the rest of work soon.

Probably this reversible Japanese Fleece Vest from South2 West8. Very versatile and makes me feel like I'm in 'Evil Does Not Exist'.

After filling in all my Coen Brothers gaps earlier this year, I was still left with a few I'd not seen in ages and wanted to re-watch, one of which is 'No Country For Old Men' which I watched tonight for the first time since seeing it in the cinema when it came out.

Tonight's feature presentation was 'The Lord Of The Rings: The War Of The Rohirrim' which I actually thought was pretty decent.

Just saw a special Q&A screening of 'Sunlight' and thought it was absolutely brilliant. Nina Conti might be a mad genius.

After two nights of American paranoia, only fair that I get some Soviet flavour too, as I watched 'Child 44' which was really only OK, a great cast but a bit of wasted potential.

I found 'The Parallax View' to be a bit of step down from Klute but still very good. I think my main issue is just that Warren Beatty is nowhere near as compelling an actor or protagonist than Sutherland.

Not quite ready for Dracula* but I am ready for... Pakula! As last night I watched and loved 'Klute'.
*Not to shade but I don't condone people who watch horror movies for the entirety of October... don't you get bored? I do it the week of Halloween, max.
