As teachers in Scotland head towards the summer break, some thoughts on ‘what to do’. Whilst it’s tempting to plan to do lots of school tasks, it’s vital you relax. If you HAVE to work, put specific dates in the calendar and stick to them, that way you can enjoy the rest of the holiday guilt-free.

Student teachers: don’t forget to make the most of whole-school experiences whilst you’re on placement. Staff meetings, in-service days, inter-disciplinary projects etc. are all great opportunities to build positive relationships across the school.

Reading should be a pleasure in each subject. So build it in, don't bolt it on. Let the scholarship used to design the lessons ooze through, in its cadences, rhythms & latent questions. And climb in thro well-crafted text: don't introduce knowledge as tidy, generalised facts.
