A Kirby Air Ride veteran who's very excited for Kirby Air Riders.
This account will probably mostly just be gameplay clips and yaps about whatever I feel like yapping about.
Susie is a cutie patootie.
Then again, I may be surprised

Maybe this game will get comparable sales to Mario Kart World and Nintendo will be impressed by how powerful a strategy it is to just let passionate developers make good games instead of taking the corporate strategy of chasing trends like open worlds and whatnot

Nostalgia is a powerful drug, as well as faith in someone with a good reputation like Sakurai, and those things worked on me lol

But at the end of the day, it's up to you, and it's your money

For me, the $520 "entry fee" feels worth it for this game, but I highly doubt this is a popular opinion :v

(Meant to say "shows they think", but that wouldn't have fit in the character limit anyway, so 🤷‍♀️)

If the Global Test Ride is the only demo the game ends up having, then, although I had fun, I'd be disappointed in Nintendo for that

Then again, they treated demos of the Splatoon games the same way, if I remember correctly, so I guess this at least shows think KAR multiplayer will be a smash hit 🤔

I think they should keep the tutorial lessons as a permanent demo when the game comes out

During the times Air Ride and City Trial weren't available, I still booted up the Global Test Ride sometimes to practice different mechanics and to do that practice race against Meta Knight on Floria Fields

It's also possible that some combinations of riders and machines simply feel more slippery than others, and that's what you're feeling with whoever you tried out the most

"Grip" is a stat they display now when you're picking your rider and machine, after all

It's a matter of opinion which game feel is better, of course, and similar to how some people prefer the physics of Melee over Ultimate in the Super Smash Bros. series, I bet this will be a talking point for some

I don't mind the new game feel

But yeah, you're not crazy, it does feel different :v

The game feel is definitely a bit different, with my brain wanting to describe it as "lighter" and "more flimsy" compared to the first game feeling more "chunky"

I personally think the new game feels more like you're on a floating vehicle than in the old game, where it feels overall more grounded

Thank you!

Yeah, the price stings, but I wouldn't have even gotten the Switch 2 if not for this game :v

Part of me has wanted a new Kirby Air Ride for years, and it seems Sakurai poured a lot of effort and love into it; the stars have aligned for the one thing that would make me buy a Switch 2 lol

The original Kirby Air Ride will always be there, but I'm about to put an ungodly number of hours into the new game

My Switch says I've played Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for 1,970 hours, which is another game I was extremely excited for

I predict I'll play Kirby Air Riders even more than that :v
November 16, 2025 at 10:21 PM
But once I do that and all three modes have a gold Checklist in Kirby Air Ride, I'll feel more satisfied with the idea of shelving the first game in favor of the new one

Kirby Air Riders is the same game but with much, much more to it, and I can't wait for it to become part of my rotation of games
November 16, 2025 at 10:21 PM
One calls for collecting 500 items, some of them call for racing 100 laps in each course, some call for collecting specific items a number of of times, and a few call for a high number of multiplayer races, so I'll have to find another decently functional controller and play a bunch of 1-lap races
November 16, 2025 at 10:21 PM
After that, I also went from 72 to 106 goals completed in the Top Ride Checklist, though I forgot to take any pictures of that

That's 34 tasks done in one sitting, with only 14 left for me to complete the last of the three Checklists :o

But these last ones are going to be quite tedious
November 16, 2025 at 10:21 PM
Speaking of my Checklist in Kirby Air Ride, I completed that Frozen Hillside time attack challenge at around 2 AM after the 5th Global Test Ride event ended at midnight in my timezone, finishing off the Air Ride Checklist with no free squares used and a fully golden Air Ride Checklist ✨

Kirby Air Riders is dead (for 4 days, then it'll rise again)
November 16, 2025 at 9:18 PM
But yeah, I think that, as of right now at least, my two mains are Yellow Kirby and Susie

They each have their strengths and weaknesses, both in races and City Trial, and their particular playstyles speak to me :v
November 16, 2025 at 6:36 AM
I've tried all of the riders in the Air Ride mode, but haven't tried all of them in City Trial

I would guess that Starman's special in particular is probably very useful in City Trial, and it's probably why I've seen people playing him so often :v
November 16, 2025 at 6:36 AM
Kirby, of course, is a more balanced experience, and not having the weight that Susie has means he's better for things that involve gliding

Susie is more sturdy, and her weight makes it easier to secure Quick Spin takedowns and to break boxes and grab items when her special is active
November 16, 2025 at 6:36 AM
Susie's special seems to work by greatly increasing her acceleration and turning, and the way acceleration works (at least in the first game) is if acceleration is high, deceleration is also high

So Susie's special makes her much easier to stop and start moving, as well as to aim at things
November 16, 2025 at 6:36 AM
Yellow Kirby's special, Crash, is basically a less-powerful but essentially instant-use version of the Bomb copy ability, and summoning relatively on-demand damage in a pretty big AoE is really useful in the right circumstances

Susie's special is great for general mobility, though

By that, I mean it's 2 PM and I haven't eaten anything yet, partly because I woke up later than usual due to staying up, and partly because I tend to procrastinate before breakfast anyway

I mean, here I am typing a thread about Kirby Air Riders instead of tending to my needs :v
