1/ It was the height of the pandemic, but Phoebe Putney Memorial had good news: At 99 years old, Maude Burke was the oldest COVID-19 patient they were discharging.

In a video, staff waved balloons, celebrating Burke beating the disease.

There was one issue: It wasn’t true. 🧵

Oh they don’t like the whistles? Hey everyone, they don’t like the whistles. If you use them it makes the armed goons sad.

I feel like new records for absolutely abhorrent and appalling things to come out of one (orange) person’s mouth in a short timeframe are being set right now. It’s truly astonishing.

In his victory speech, Zohran Mamdani shouts out Richard, a taxi driver he went on a hunger strike with.

“My brother, we are in City Hall now,” he said.

Revisit the story from Nov. 2021, including Mamdami’s quote which is quite striking in this moment.

A massive result: Maine voters have rejected Question 1, a ballot measure that would have restricted mail voting and put into place strict new voter ID requirements. This outcome was no sure thing heading into tonight. The measure’s failure preserves current voter access in Maine, as 2026 looms.

Mamdani!!!!! I have to be in NYC for an event tomorrow evening and right now I deeply regret not going a night early to dance in the streets of the city I called home for 20+ years and still deeply love.
