Starting a review game tonight - Isles of Sea & Sky is a GBA-style zelda-like. I love this kind of game, I'm going live with it in ten mins, see you at twitch.tv/nethesem

Interesting debate about product reviews after MKBHD blasted the Humane AI Pin. I think there's a valid discussion around being tasteful in criticism - but it blows my mind that the Humane pin was the flash point. It was bad when they announced it. Why is anyone surprised that it's bad on release?

I'm starting Salt & Sanctuary 1 tonight - seen almost nothing of this game, so looking forward to taking a swing at it!

I entirely forgot to post anything here. So here's an Asus Zephyrus with Liquid Metal leaking all over the CPU 👌
There's a line of silicone sealant to keep it contained, but I suspect heat and expansion allowed the LM to blow through it.
Took some cleaning, but the laptop survived!

Starting The Outer Worlds tonight, not actually sure what I'm getting into, but everyone says it's great, and Obsidian certainly know what they're doing. So here goes nothing!

OK touch-wood, rumours of Mirror's Edge being a little janky on modern systems and particularly difficult to stream/record look like they're greatly exaggerated. I'm going full-send and shall try to stream it in 30mins! Not played it for a very very long time! twitch.tv/nethesem

So I'm playing Palworld, and saw this interesting scene... I was exploring this area fairly quickly, so this neat grid of sleeping Foxparks spawned at night and instantly went to sleep, staying perfectly in grid and alignment with the spawn points.

Switch lubing for my keyboard refurb project! It's easy work, just lots of them to do. Should make my old MasterKeys super quiet though!

In over 10 years of self-employment, I think this might be the first year when, upon doing my tax return, I had all the logins, security codes and other requisite ID numbers all on hand and ready to go.

This is what greeted me when I turned on my work PC this morning. This is Edge on default settings (I don't use it). How is the average person supposed to make sense of this screen?
At a technical level, Edge is completely fine, but my god the default experience is awful to look at.

Ellie series 2 my beloved... I've missed having one of these. Expensive, but feels so much more premium. Rear paddles make stick-clicks so much nicer, and all other buttons can be remapped for Nintendo controls, or games that won't let you customise.

This law proposes that you will need to be earning over £38k a year to be allowed to bring your foreign spouse to the UK. I have a few friends who will be affected by this nonsense law. If you're a brit bong, sign the petition to fight it! Takes 30 seconds!

Petition: Don’t increase the income requirement for family visas to £38,700
Currently the financial requirements to bring your spouse to the UK is £18,600 per year and now the Government wants to more than double it. Most people in the UK don’t make that per year. We belie...

I'm sick and my comfort playlist is Ben Eater's 8-Bit Breadboard computer. IMHO this is the best way to understand TTL logic and how CPUs work at the most basic level. Required watching for computer science.

So I'm half way through season 1 of Invincible... man... this show is intense. It's really, really good. Just as you think the violence is gratuitous, it makes a point about how this would be the reality. Just as you think a character is a shallow insert, they reveal their motivations. Outstanding.

Lego Fortnite is a very big symptom of Epic pushing Fortnite as a metaverse - something Epic have talked about for a long time. Fortnite isn't just a game anymore, it's a platform.
This isn't new, but I think it's only now that I'm agreeing with them.

I've started dipping my toes into Stellaris after a lot of bullying from a friend, and man, I'd have tried it a lot sooner if someone had said "have you played Sins of a Solar Empire?"
But also that's a really obscure game so I'm not surprised either.

The new version of Handbrake is now doing cropping on GPU, not CPU. I record 4x 1080p streams as a 4k mosaic, and then transcode it back into 4x 1080p files later, so I was extremely CPU-bottlenecked. This update has made my transcoding literally twice as fast - big W for the handbrake team.

The headline doing the rounds that "google is disabling uBlock Origin" is so misleading that I'm commenting about it.
What's actually happening is that Chrome is switching from MV2 to MV3 extensions, a change that's been planned since 2018, and is nothing to do with adblocking _per se_. 1/?

Someone (programmer) stands in front of you (user) with a knife. They go to stab you. An angel (CPU designer) dilates space-time so the knife is still traveling but requiring infinite force to accelerate. They overcome this and stab you anyway.
That’s why your computer is slow.
